  1. Hello fellow peds, just checking in from New York (home at last) Now wading through thousands of boxes on the couple of days a week that we get off, but having got the kitchen, lounge and boudoir set up first we have sanity to retreat too. The good news is whilst unpacking I am averaging 10,000 steps a day so obviously moving house must be good for you!!!!!! ;) Sorry Chulla no way will I be giving up my Fitbit, it keeps me on track with my fight against diabetes.

Seriously though I'm sorry to hear you have been poorly Banjo, hope you are on the road to recovery. And glad to hear you are so much better Carni.

I have missed a few postings recently though I have been lurking. We are very busy at the site, being full everyday during the school hols and most evenings I have spent just relaxing with my tapestry in the 'van, and of course days off have been busy here sorting out our new house which I absolutely love.

The day we took over the house we had lunch and dinner at The Leagate Inn, just down the road. Another fabulous pub. Last weekend was back to the Bluebell for Sunday Lunch. Its good to know we have some great pubs around full of really friendly folk, which adds to our excitement. Today we are off to Horncastle to scour the antique shops for a Victorian hall stand, so more steps expected and lots more fun to come.

    Enjoy your steps folks

  2. Hello Echo, sorry to hear you have been poorly and hope you are much better now. Worry and stress can certainly take its toll on your body. You must look after yourself too.

Its sooooo good to hear your son has had such a marvellous time at the Whitakers and I am keeping my fingers crossed for him. I understand his love for horses totally and know for myself that a special connection you can have. My own mare was a one off, she taught me to ride and gave me such wonderful memories, she was a real school mistress and looked after all my children. She won major events (with my friend riding her, I was never that good) and then went on to get my daughter well placed in a class at Ponies UK. (Yes it was Flo's work!) When she died I was with her in her field, her head on my knees. I have ridden since, but I will never find that connection again with another horse and have no wish to, as I said Flo was a one off for me, a dream come true. For this reason I am really pleased that your son has found another horse with whom he can bond, it is a precious thing. All nest wishes to you all.

  3. So glad that things are looking positive,Michael. Don't be afraid to share the gloomy news with us as well, we are all with you both on this journey and are here to support you and your wife in spirit if not in body at all times.

Best wishes, as always to you both.

  4. Stayed at Scampton whilst visiting my daughter a couple of weeks ago and saw them coming in to land in 3's on return from a display. Used to see them practising most days over Lincoln from our old house. Looking forward to our new house next week, should see the BBMF flight quite often, and hubby has been offered a free look round their home after they have finished their displays for the season (He used to be based at Coningsby in his yoof) Exciting times ahead I think :)

  5. So after several hours I at last have my stats from last week.

Thursday... cleaning day and then half day off so we went shopping but I forgot to take my fitbit with me so only 2988 steps recorded from the morning, need to add 1 hours shopping!!

Friday, not much better, 3813 but we were on duty and so in the office, to tired to go for a walk later as I had been standing all day (also developed a sore knee)

Saturday, much better, new staff arrived (other colleagues retired) so I did the welcome to Sandringham meal (another steamboat) and this after a cleaning and sweeping up around the buildings day totalled 8356 steps.

Sunday , not so good again being a very busy office day, we tend to have more arrivals on a Sunday than a Friday, but a close encounter of a slithery kind, when a grass snake wrapped itself round my ankle when I went into our shed probably helped boost the steps a little to 4177!!

Monday, cleaning day and pitch tidy up, then off to Scampton in the evening for a couple of days R&R in the contact house = 9529

Tuesday, probably the best for along while, then again my daughter Sam and I did go and spend 6 hours shopping in Lincoln while the car had its MOT :)

and then BMW had to fess up to scuffing the bumper oops! So work to be done by them in a few weeks time. Bet the MOT person was mortified, but hey ho these things happen and generally they give excellent service at Sopers. Babysitting in the evening with young Alex who fell asleep on my knee, bless him, while Sam and Ryan had a long awaited night out (He having just returned from 4 months on detachment in the Falklands) 11,714 steps.

And so today, return to Sandringham, shopping (for food this time) in Kings Lynn and a general lazy day, thwarted by rain this evening so no walk done and a lowly 4879 steps. Back to work tomorrow and the start of the countdown to our next day off which is also when we complete on our house sale and will be flying up the A17 to collect the keys :)

    Happy stepping everyone

  6. Gosh it's been a while since I posted, almost a week again. What with the site being so busy now so we just sleep at night, and going away on our days off so we have no internet for a couple of days at a time the days are just flying by. So I'll just bring up my Fitbit website and get my past weeks steps from there.

    BRB

  7. Love to hear the birds singing, especially the sky lark, blackbird and robin, could listen to them all day.

The cry of a new born babe.

Next the unmistakable sound of the merlin engine of the Spitfire and even better when accompanied by the Hurricane and Lancaster which is just as well as we will be living within spitting distance of BBMF very soon :)

  8. Aw Carni, Tramadol is like bringing out the big guns, I really hope this gets sorted soon. Don't let it get you down chuck, just carry on taking it easy.

Rog you are an inspiration for an office work day, I can't even get 8000 steps on an outside day at the moment, mind you it might help if the blooming rain stopped.

Office day for me, but I got the cleaning bug so decided to scrub the back office floor ( probably due to yesterdays milk spillage and the lingering smell of sour milk..yuk), and did some mountaineering up a step ladder to clean the light diffusers (hubby has a bad back so I wouldn't let him go up). Finished off the day with an evening walk round the site to check all is well as we are now running full every day and have had a complaint about a child kicking a football around, so total count for today is 6154.

  9. Crikey it's a week since I last posted, where has the time gone?

Last week was a bit of a blur as we were getting ready for our Prince's Countryside Fund fundraising day with me drawing the treasure hunt map and making the guess the weight of the cake tractor cake, photos of which I would post but since changing to this laptop seem to have lost the ability to post photos, so will have to wait until we have our proper pcs available again.

So here are my weekly stats

    Wednesday 22/7 - 7171

    Thursday 23/7 - 7245

Friday 24/7 - a very wet day and the start of our weekend off, which saw us taking 3 hours to get to Scampton where we were spending the weekend in the RAF contact house (and very nice it was too) Weather was atrocious and road hold ups a nightmare 4760 steps

Saturday 25/7 - Off to see Mum in the morning and to take her shopping, then a visit from Samantha and our grandson Alex in the afternoon who live at Scampton followed by a walk to the park for slides and swings, 5967 steps (nearly made my 6000)

Sunday 26/7 - a stay at home day to cook Sunday Roast for Sam and Alex before heading off back to Sandringham so very low steps as it was a very wet day again, on the plus side we did get a glimpse of a couple of fly pasts from 3 of the Arrows (or possibly it was 9 of them coming in to land in 3's) Steps total 2838

Monday 27/7 - back to work and an office day so low steps to start with and another miserably wet day, but fortunately it dried out enough for a walk in the evening 6004 steps, learned that the fundraising was a bit of a washout with low numbers, thankfully we had just organised a few indoor activities and managed to raise £155, some sites had to cancel their outdoor events, so even £155 was a bonus.

and so back to the present, quite a busy day yesterday being on cleaning duty and head of Site Ops turning up for a spot check (the wardens were on their day off so John and I had to show him around....gulp) Fortunately I was looking gainfully employed when he arrived being in the middle of washing the office floor following a milk spillage :) Hopefully his visit was fruitful and we made a good impression of knowing what we were talking about, we shall no doubt find out when the RM visits in a couple of weeks, anyway total step count for yesterday = 6853

So that's me back up to date. Well almost, yesterday also saw us exchange contracts on our new house, whoop whoop. Completion date set for 10th August, so excitement is starting to build at last.

Hope you ear problems clear up soon Carni, you are still getting some good tallies in though, well done for persevering :)

  10. Good luck with your visit to the docs Carni, I hope the new happenings are good happenings brought about by your exercise.

Don't worry about your lack of step count, even into the 3000's is not bad, you are still moving about and not sitting all day. Gardening is good exercise even if it doesn't add too many steps to the tally (I bet it's on the calculator that Rog put on at the beginning of this thread!!)

A bit of a quiet time for us the last few days.

Saturday was my turn in the office, quite busy in that respect and got into the 3000's and topped it up by a walk through the woods and back via the Camping and caravanning club site which is next door....the bracken is now too high to go through for my usual route, I would need a machete to get through the jungle which now covers all the smaller paths! Its a good walk though and my total for Saturday was 6539.

Yesterday was back to cleaning and outside jobs, though I was more indoors as I am presently preparing stuff for The Princes Countryside Trust event which is happening at most of the Caravan Club Sites over this next week . For me this was icing a board for the Guess the weight Of The cake which I am making, and drawing a grid treasure map of a farmyard for "Where has Henrietta laid her eggs?"

Still, watering the plants and hanging baskets and checking on the wildlife haven, where we have some seedlings growing...shhhh don't tell the rabbits.....I managed to finish with a total of 7654.

Our day off today, not sure what we will be doing but hopefully it will have steps involved.....Have a good day everyone.

  11. So pleased to read everything is turning out well for your son Echo. I think he will have a great future ahead of him and I wish him all the very best. My daughter did her uni work experience on the Whitakers yard and thoroughly enjoyed her work there, I know they will look after him.

As for his soon-to-be former employer I sincerely hope she gets everything she deserves, and have no doubt she will, as the saying goes "What goes around comes around" and one way or another she will get her come uppance have no doubt of that.

Best wishes to all your family.

  12. Sorry folks missed a few days but looks like you have been busy in our absence.

Good to see you're out and about again Carni, hope your ears are on the mend. Ear problems can be so debilitating because they are linked to so many other senses including balance.

I know what you mean about the elusive 10000 Rog, I seem to be back on the just above 6000 mark again.

The reason for my absence? Our days off this week were Tuesday and Wednesday and still being homeless we decided on a pub stay in the Norfolk Broads at Stalham, so once again no internet and mucho exploring, stopping off at the lovely seaside village of Mundsley for our lunch of sandwiches on the seawall, followed by an ice cream. After settling into the pub we went for a walk around Horning and Wednesday a boat trip around Wroxham Broads. So a fair bit of walking done.

    Steps Tuesday 6273

    Wednesday 7507

    Yesterday 4048 (office day) plus yoga 4500 = 8548

  13. I'm sure you will soon be back on your bike Carni, but do as you are doing and listen to your body, if it says no then that's a good enough reason. You have done so well a few days off will not hurt, but take it slowly when you decide to resume normal service :)

A well earned rest for you Rog, I am on average steps at the moment. Office day yesterday but managed a woodland walk (still avoiding the soggy bracken) so totalled 8089 steps. Today was the cleaning regime and I had every intention of lots of outside work but was thwarted by the rain, got some leaves raked up under the shelter of trees, but that was it really, still got 7577 so far.

Kayjay, you were pretty close. I was hoping to post a photo of mine from photbucket but my laptop won't do it. It's a large pot with a chimney on top of a charcoal burner also known as a Chinese fondue. You fill the pot with stock then add all sorts of veg and meat to it, fishing it out with little nets when it's cooked and dipping in a choices of sauces and accompaniments, as well as jasmine rice.. Great fun for a social event. it's very annoying that I can't copy anything to this page at the moment, had the same trouble with my other laptop but if you google Chinese Steamboat Images there is one exactly like mine in the first picture.

  14. When I lived in an old farmhouse (kitchen dating back to 1600's) I had the deeds and transfers of sale going back to 1784, the oldest ones being hand written on parchment by quill pen and ink. Sadly I cannot show them as I passed them on to the new owners of the house when we left, as I felt they should stay with the house. They made incredibly interesting reading charting the history of the Lownds who originally owned the house. What was really spooky about them was the similarity between the Lownds family and my own, for example John Lownds died on my birthday and was buried in the churchyard in the village from where we had moved. He had 3 daughters who survived childhood, Charlotte, Elizabeth and Ann.....my 3 daughters are named Charlotte, Samantha's middle name is Elizabeth and the youngest is Joanna.

  15. Well, only got through 3 of the risk assessments so far...so much reading and then applying them to the site and noting where things could be improved, this could be a long job, but yesterday was our outside day, so after cleaning and lunch I was busy finishing off the insect hotel, using hedge trimmings (John was brandishing the hedge cutter...too heavy for me) they made excellent filler and some on top too (must get on with the wildlife blog) Popped a roof on and it's ready for the grand opening, already has one resident as a spider moved in as I was completing it.

Then watered all the planters and hanging baskets as well as my own veggies and as soon as we knocked off it was off to Asda for chinesey type food as we were doing a steamboat for tea. Hands up those who know what a steamboat is.

So total steps for the day 8798

Carni you did great for feeling off colour, hope you're back on course very soon, but take it easy and make sure you are completely recovered, don't go over doing things.

Love your version of a lazy day Rog, looking forward to hearing what you do on a lazy Sunday :)

Enjoy the rest of the weekend folks

  16. Not a bad day yesterday Rog, good free food is always a bonus, and I don't call 7521 steps meagre.....now my step count for today,3142...that's meagre. An Office day and reading through the corporate risk assessments (which have to be signed off each year as having been read) what more could a girl want on a hot sunny day!! Too tired to go for a walk tonight, though it could also be something to do with the pimms that the warden produced at afternoon tea time!

Sorry to hear about the loss of your mother Rog, despite not having seen them for many years it is sad to lose a parent, they are after all a little part of yourself.

  17. Whistling kettles are still available and can be heard on campsites

Have to say I thought I would hear a cuckoo this year at Sandringham being in the middle of the woods, but not once, nor come to that have I heard a woodpecker, though often heard them at our old house.

Don't hear ice cream vans playing their chimes as they drive round the houses, nowadays they just park up at prime locations and wait.

Air horns on cars that were so popular in the 70's
