Hello Sneintongirl I started at the Junior school in 1964 Miss Coulson was my first teacher. Mr Bentley was the teacher in the fourth year. Headmaster Mr Wells, nice man. Deputy head Mr Tate, not quite as nice. I also remember a Mrs Proqupchuqe (not spelt right). Any of these names sound familiar to you?

Great picture.where do you find them Cliff Ton? More likely taken at the City Ground with the track around the pitch and a post in the back ground probably holding up the old East Stand.

In 1969 we moved from Sneinton and went to live on Southcliffe Road, Carlton, I was thirteen and got my first paid employment as a paperboy working for the Budds. Nice people, who, if my memory is correct lived at 3 Southlea Road. I also did the occasional meat delivery on a Saturday morning for the butcher at the shop near to Rex Robinsons (do not recall the butchers name) Rode a traditional butchers bike with the basket on the front, just like Granville's on Open All Hours.

1961 Greenwood Infants, top of Sneinton Boulevard, do not remember any teachers. 1963 Greenwood Juniors, bottom of the hill on the Boulevard. I lived on Baden Powell Road so it was about 25 yards walk to the main gate. Headmaster Mr Wells, Deputy Head Mr Tate. Miss Coulson teacher in 1st year and Mr Bentley in the 4th year. 1967 Mundella Grammar school, caught the number 8 to Trent Bridge on the Boulevard, free bus pass as well.

[Front or top loader, which is better?]

A top loader was always considered to be the better machine because it was able to take a bigger load and spin faster than a front loader due, I believe, to the bearings being horizontal and situated at the base of the drum, with a front loader the bearings are vertical and situated at the rear of the drum. Front loaders became popular due to being able to fit under worktops in fitted kitchens.

Sneintongal, the cottage in Colwick Woods was used as football changing rooms in the late sixties. You got changed in there, not very nice, then walked up the hill through the trees and came out at the football pitches that were situated off Greenwood Road, opposite Jesse Boot School.I played for a team called Colwick Rangers at U12 age level, we were managed by Bernard Cram. Spent a lot of time at Monkey Park on Trent Lane. If I remember right the park was triangle shaped with the slide in the point of the triangle and there was a metal roundabout. The empty Virgin offices are now on this site.

Always remember having my first proper haircut at the barbers on Colwick Road, my grandad took me. We lived on Baden Powell, you turned right on to Colwick Road and the barbers was a short distance on the right. Remember asking for a 'Boston' whatever that was!! the old guy would then just razor it all off. I use to look pretty much like I do now.....without having to go to the barbers!!

Hello all

Just discovered this excellent site. The bits I have read bring back so many memories. Born on Lord Nelson Street 1956. Aged 2 moved to Baden Powell Road. Went to Greenwood Infants (top of the hill) Then Greenwood Junior (top of Baden Powell Road) Walked about 30 yards, crossed the Boulevard and was at school. Fortunate to pass 11 Plus so went to Mundella Grammar School. Moved to Carlton aged 13 in 1969. Had a great childhood in Sneinton.
