Joy James 10
Hiya folks, out in the garden today I saw a black butterfly. It was quite small, wings about the size of that common small blue one I somrtimes see, and dainty and seemed to have either a lomg body or a long tail. Anyone know what it was? I have never seen anything like that before. Joy James

firbeck 860
Maybe it was an ethnic cabbage white. By coincidence I was looking up a strange shield bug in my Insect Identification book yesterday and was reading in there that many butterflies have become darker due to the effect of living in an urban environment, it may be something to do with that. Incidentally, I haven't identified the shield bug yet.
