firbeck 860
Nowt to do with Nottingham, but poor old Sir Bobby died this morning, I think he should be mentioned. I watched the England V Germany old boys match the other night and I thought that the old boy looked terrible, but such a brave man to have attended the match. His problem with trying to run the England team was that he was such a nice bloke, which made him the FA's stooge to counter that nasty Mr Clough from taking over, but despite his success with Ipswich, and compared to others, not exactly an England total failure, he eventually became FA cannon fodder. I suspect that his illness had affected him longer than he was prepared to admit, I hope he gets the recognition he deserves on tonights news, a lovely man, he deserves to be in the football hall of fame. rob237 89
Sad news...clear impression from Sunday that he was in his latter days. Very rare for a national sporting figure to be so universally admired. BTW: The FA's 'stop Clough' stooge was Ron Greenwood, the ultimate 'yes man'... Cheers Robt P. Beefsteak 305
He was still the most successfull England manager since Ramsey (IMHO) getting us to the Semis of the world cup in 1990. And also doing a 'Clough' himself , in taking a team of no hopers and has beens to the league title. RIP Bobby, have drink with Jimmy and Jack, and a J2O for Cloughie!! zab 47
Sad indeed, he did look really ill towards the end; always liked Bobby Robson - a true gent by all accounts. I must admit I'd forgotten how successful he actually was with his European clubs.
