  1. Looks some of you are talking about my former home. My dad was landlord from 1957-1971. I have lots of happy memories there most of them good.Yes we did have the occasional fight(cabaret) including one on my 18th when the club room upstairs was gatecrashed by the Beacon lot!!. Thursday nights were also eventful. Dad had a run with Alvin Lee of the Jaybirds (who later became famous with Ten Years After) who wouldn't stop playing when time was called so dad cut the electric to his guitar. After the groups we had the Thursday night disco with DJ Kevin Hopcroft.

Remember all those names that's been mentioned especially the Renolds and Miller Newman.

Couldn't all be bad as I met my husband there!!.

  2. I can remember the cowboy who used to come in the Cocked Hat, not sure if its the same one but he used to get on stage in the back room and sing.

You seem about the same age as me, how often did you frequent the Cocked Hat, did you live on the estate?

  3. The shops next to the Cocked Hat as far as I can remember were the chemist then Hadlums fish and chips, Mellors the grocers,Fowlers the newsagents and then the Co-op not sure whether the small shop you refer to was the co-op butchers although we always got our meat from the butchers near Coleby Road..

Bottom end (Cinderhill) was Heywoods the grocers, Priestleys hardware, Fish and chip shop, Smeetons butchers, Fords, Marsdens, Hairdressers or Barbers, and Cinderhill pharmacy.

I may have some wrong or missed some out

  4. Just had a week down in Cornwall walking the coastal paths they keep you fit.

Beefsteak if you are moving to Par there is nice walk from there to Polkerris along the cliff top to a nice pub( Rashleigh Arms) selling real ale and good food.
