  1. From the Cocked Hat to the original Woodstock Festival...if I had a mind, it would boggle...

    Cheers

    Robt P.

Thought you might be interested in an old photo of the Jaybirds, with Alvin Lee at the time when they appeared at the Cocked Hat. Incidentally they were the last group to play there as my dad Bill, turned off all the power to their amps as they would not stop playing when "time" was called. The brewery were then unhappy at the loss in sales, so started the Cocked Hat disco era.

  2. Just found this forum on vintage hi-fi, we started with Radford valved amp & preamp, bought off the same guy that Craig got his American Hi-Fi off. He also got us hooked on Bose 901's and Phase Linear amp, but ours was only 400 watts (rms) Still have 901's but not the originals powered by Linn Amp & pre amp. We also had at one time a SME arm (bought off Craig) on a 401 deck, but now have a revolver deck with Linn arm.

When we ran the disco (years ago!) we had a Vortexion amp which replaced the Leak amp.

When I helped out at L&M which churned out Amstrad amp & Garrard system by the dozen when it first opened in Bramcote, the faults did not always lie with Amstrad. One woman rang up to complain her system would not work - turns out she had not plugged it in!

Would be grateful if you let me know date of reunion not sure whether I would go, perhaps my hubby would go as well, he went to Crane till he was 13.

Went through some old photos and she is on quite a few in fact got one of her brothers baby(Kim) taken 1961( would be 47 now ) Also got some of the teachers from school. We go on holiday with Rino and her husband every year. Will try and find out how Jenny is and let you know.

  5. Hi Katyjay

Never see anybody from School its funny that, you would think you would, perhaps I just don't recognise them. See quite a lot of people from Bells Lane area but they are my husbands sisters friends so about a year older than me. Can you remember Rino Crackle she was a prefect at our school so might have been in your class? By the way played SCOOP with my granddaughter on Saturday night , not sure what she made of it!

  6. Hi Katyjay

Guess what, I still have the game, Yes I do have an older brother (Bill) he lives down in Essex, it was him that told me about this site, I think he googled the Cocked Hat and came up with this. I am still finding things on here, just found the one you put on about Crane School in 2006!! What memories that brought back! Can you remember Julie Warrington lived on Minver Crescent her boyfriend (Stu) used to pick her up from school on his motorbike?

We got married on the 14th Sept.1968 and all we could afford was a week away on the south coast a bit different to todays young ones!! We were out in Bangkok for our nephews wedding last October.

I read an article about you in the evening post a few years,I think you were running a motel near the Grand Canyon?

Pubs have certainly changed a bit over here looks like the Red Lion is next to go now been acquired by the college, I still keep in touch with the June who married the landlords son (Harvey)

  11. Hi Frank

Yes I can remember some of them, but not Betty as I think she was one of the younger ones. If my dad were alive he would have plenty of tales to tell about the family as Ken the father was always in the Cocked Hat. I can remember that 2 of the sons died, 1 drowned in the Trent, the other they found dead in bed (he was aged about 17) after a night out in the Barleycorn on Christmas Eve.

Have attached some photo of the pub. One of the gardens and front of the pub taken about 1960, and the other during its demolition in December 2004.

Hopefully the photos are now small enough to upload

  12. Hi Val

Did you know the Hind family that lived behind the green opposite the Cocked Hat?

They had a daughter Betty and a son whose name I think was Barry. Betty would be about 55/56 now.

  13. Of course i remember it all! As you mention the Hine brandy, you must be the Val i knew back then, Bill and Agnes's daughter... yes ? Obviously i remember L & M as i worked there with Clive, who i still see regularly!

Strange coincidence this, because i drove past the pub last night at around 7.30 (Xmas eve) and i could only see one person in the bar, not like in the good old days eh!

Obviously sorry to hear about your dad, i hope your mum is well.

Now remind me who was married to whom, Alan to......... and its so long ago, ive forgotten, was Spud his brother? and married to.........?

Anyway, sorry i didnt see the reply until now, i have been tracking the thread, but almost gave up on a reply!

If its not too late, have a good remainder of Christmas, and reply soon!

    Craig

Hope you had a good Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and everyone @ Nottstalgia. Allan is married to me (must reply to Katyjay looks like we got married in the same church the same week)and Spud (Terry) is married to Pauline. We still see Clive in fact he was at our house in June filming mine and Pauline's joint 60th party.

I should have some photos of the Cocked Hat when it was a proper pub so will try and post them on the site if I can work out how to put them on!!!
