  1. Did you go?

    I went 1968-72.

I was DJ there in the early 1970's

Bit late I know but we must keep the WB side up!

    I went in 69, I was only 15 at the time :-)

I remember the favourite music was Four Tops I can't Help Myself and Norman Greenbaum
Spirit in the Sky. Pulled a nice bird who was a year or two older than me.
Many happy moments waiting for her last bus over at the Trent Bridge Bus Terminus on a
    wednesday night.
  2. yes they did call the club after the son..one of them was married to Lizzie robinson, a former miss england...had a clothes shop on mansfield road called babels and a house at toton called the tower of babel...back in the day they worked the 99 club at trent bridge

The 99 Club - my mother worked behind the bar for a time. Nice club - as I recall they too had

a problem with people climbing in the front from the car park, getting in without paying!

  3. Mick there was somehere else as it happens - The Hippo, cos Petal and Pat used to work there. They usually played Layla to segue into a slow section and Samba pa ti to get out of it!

They were always playing Layla down at the Union and The Strawbs - Part of the Union.

Good though. They were always having problems with people climbing in the joint without paying as I recall.

  4. Hi Robert (fish66), you wont know me but I knew/know your uncle Frank. He was my dads boss at Grove.

We often used to go to the elbow cafe for our dinners during the week, me, my dad and frank. I was only about 11 or so years old in 65 - I was at the grove most school holidays working for peanuts! - no to be fair Frank did pay me well for the work I did. Lovely dinners at the Elbow cafe btw. You can send my regards to your dad - just tell him it's Ted's lad.

  5. Hi everyone, glad to be here. I remember Pete's shop and his move to Bobbers Mill. What about the surplus shop on Arkwright street? Used to buy stuff from there too. In 69/70 I built a sinclair Z50 audio amp and the

preamp specified in the booklet. I liked it anyway! I us3ed a couple of 12 inch speakers out of some old valve radios and stuffed them in plywood cabs - all sadly lost now. I loved the look of the Sinclair Neoteric. Frequented the Slipper in WB most weeks at that time also. Other similar shops of the period were bozzeyes (Universal Electronics) and Damon Electronics.
