  1. In  1961  when I was 15 I was a drivers m8 at Crawfords Biscuits in the railway yard just over the canal bridge on Wilford rd,  when they joined United Biscuits in 1963  all us m8s were made redundant  but  Poo Bear also worked there he not thank me for telling you, so any way a few years later I  took a job  with Watmoughs on Paddock st I drove an old Thame Trader  delivering lollipops and confectionery all over the country  while I was there they had shops near the Theatre Royal one on Parliament st and one at Clifton the manager was a perfectionist  and a wally I forget his name but he really got on  my nerves    they eventually sacked me for blowing the engine up while delivering in Northhamptonshire,, a few years later I was driving for Cadburys from their Ilkeston base and had to deliver to Watmoughs when they had moved to Lenton the look on that managers face when he seen me  was a picture when i said i aint taking no shit of you matey,  in my early driving career I also drove for Rowntrees  Mars and Nestles  and that could explain while I am now a fat old bxxxxrd with no teeth lol  PS the shop near the Theatre was a real problem as I had to carry the goods upstairs to the store room  and a shite of a traffic warden did me because I was  long time delivering  I gave the ticket to old man Watmough I dunno if he paid it, happy days  wish I could go back

  2. Watmoughs sweet factory was on Paddock street between Woolworths on Lister gate and Maid Marion way i was a driver for them in in 1966 , they also had a shop on Parliament st and one at the side of the Theatre Royal i remember that one because an arsehole of a traffic warden gave me a ticket when i was unloading there one day, it was my first driving job an everything went well till i blew the engine up on a Thames Trader van when returning back from Northamptonshire the cylinder head gasket had gone and i filled up an whole lot of empty lollipop jars with water to get home with and old man Watmough sacked me for it, they moved to Abbey Bridge when the Broadmarsh centre was planned and the factory was demolished ps i also broke down in leeds on one trip and had my girlfriend with me at the time so we had to spend the night together and thats when my son was made lol, while we was in leeds we visited the picture house there to see THE FAMILY WAY with Haley Mills and Hywell Bennet and the Rolling Stones were singing lets spend the night together on the juke box in a pub there, great days the 1960s

same here Caz, I can only vaguely remember it, and I only lived a mere 500 or so yards away.

but check out the road plaques, they say .. London road / Kirk wight street east.

and that being the case, Arkwright school was a mere 10 yards opposite!

the question is: if it wasn't the Sir John that stood on that corner, can you remember what did? huh.gif

THE PUB WAS THE SIR JOHN FRANKLIN AND NEXT DOOR TO IT WAS IVY MITCHELLS SWEET SHOP OPPOSITE THE SCHOOL, SHE WAS MY AUNT AND WAS OPEN ALL HOURS AND MADE HER MONEY WHEN NOTTS COUNTY WAS PLAYING AT HOME. ALL THE FANS WOULD COME IN FOR THEIR FAGS AND A QUARTER OF BULLSEYES OR A PKT OF BARNIPS. POO BEAR KNOWS ALL ABOUT THE LATTER - HAPPY DAYS WISH THEY WOULD COME BACK

  7. Hi Mick i just thought you would like a bit more info on the bikers video it was made by myself with a few old pics from my teenage years in the sixties. Most of the people in it lived in and around broxtowe and we used to meet at a youth club housed in the main hall of player secondary school and we used to hang out on broxtowe lane outside hadlums chippy and the cocked hat pub most of them will now be in their middle sixties and retired but it is nice to look back. all the best colin (tazraz7)
