  1. No disrespect LB but why should I know him?? you sent me on a wild goose chase there, because my interest is military aviation...............LOL

He does look a lot like Enoch Powell though doesnt he Beefy..."Rivers of blood" and all that!!

I wonder how many illegals have come through EMA? Now theres a good question for a Trivia thread....lol

    Owdtite ,

  2. Hi Rob,

    No, not Tom Wheatcroft.

Sir Michael Bishop is on the right, guy in the middle is from Schiphol Airport.

The guy in question had an aviator background but should be known for his work on the ground. Bishop had the planes, Schiphol was a destination. What did they both need in the UK? Perhaps think along the lines of your last question??

Was he something to do with the discovery of radar??

  4. Hadn't realised that Hansard reached as far as Berriedale, Castletown, Haster, Reiss, Latherton, Reay, Watten & Georgemas Jct

Should have quoted your moniker as the clue...instead of wheels!

  5. And here is a quote from the very Man...................

It is heartening to know also that no Petition has been presented against this Special Order, and that it will benefit sixteen local authorities and, I am glad to say, will give pleasure to the Association of Municipal Corporations, who are interested in this matter. It is interesting to recall that in February, 1957, Ben England, then general manager of Nottingham City Transport, wrote in Bus and Coach, an article headed, "If only Parliament had encouraged electric traction", which commented on what trolley buses might have been in this country.

    Owdtite.... !congrats!

  6. Those your dogs Owdtite?....I got two of them.

    mmmff.jpg

Yes Poohbear, Mine also like nothing more than chasing after sticks/balls....I think your two are much younger than my two old Gals though...They are 11 yrs old now and like me are getting slow and stiff.

Brilliant dogs though are Collies, very intelligent and easy to train....I keep mine going and they keep me going (in all weathers)..lol

  7. "Dicky Dido"

Nickname given to the railway workers train which shuttled between Bulwell Common Station and Annesley loco...

DIDO being the acronym for Day in/Day out...

    Cheers

    Robt P.

Awww...cheers Rob, thanks so much for that and it makes sense.....I am sorry for asking but it was one of those things that stick in your head from being a kid and still playing on my mind at 63....Thanks to you I can now rest in peace..Thanks Rob!!

    Owdtite.... !cheers!

  8. Hi Oldace, Wet as usual in Caithness but luckily not much wind for a change....Yes, I remember that song, something about coloured pubic hairs wasnt it?

I am sure thats not what my Parents meant when they used to say..."Heres the Dicky Dido"...mind you, then again!!!!!

    Owdtite... !tanning!

  9. As some of you know I was born and lived in Bulwell till I was 20, I lived very close to the LNER viaduct where the Lido was. I always rememeber my parents refering to an engine(train ?) coming over the viaduct that they always called "The Dicky Dido"...To this day I still dont know why it was called that, does anyone know the answer so that I can go to my grave in peace????

    Owdtite......

  10. How is Sark nowadays??

I dont think they would have me on Sark Poohbear, and it would be too costly for me but Caithness just suits me fine..The Police have an easy job up here, you have more chance of seeing an English pound note than you are a Copper...

    Owdtite.

  11. I dont rememeber Boris, perhaps I was before his time but I do remember Mabel Green. Mabel was Bulwell's only Tramplike Female as far as I know. She always wore a long black (dirty) coat and matching beret....and Boy could she swear, when us kids gave her some cheek she would come out with words I had never heard of...

God Bless Mabel,RIP, you were part of my youth.....Anybody else know of her?

  12. Hi Cliff and welcome, I hope you have a good time trawling through the interesting topics that are on here.

I had about 3 years at Clifton till I had my car nicked from outside my house....Luckily I escaped to a place that has no lawlessness, just peace and quiet and a good place for me to enjoy my retirement..

  13. While we are on the subject of Hartley Rd, if you were walking down from Bentinck Rd and on the left hand side about 500yds down can anyone remember the general grocers that were run by the Oakland Family in the 60's...I know they had a son called Dennis and a daughter named Beryl...I think Beryl was a hairdresser at Pendreds above the bank in the OM Square.. I think they sold up and went to live in Pelham Cres in Beeston.

    Owdtite...
