  1. Saw Freddie Star there & had Chicken in a basket.

Biggest memory though was there was a chip shop just a bit away on the Rd opposite, I came out of there gave the Etype some wellie & the throttle stuck didn't make the traffic light witch was on red before managing to turn off the ignition.

  2. No it was the pub on Lambourne Dr the newsagent was on the right side if you faced Woolaton rd if i remember if you turned right towards the park the road divided into a V at some shops the Wheelhouse was further down towards the Crown island.

  3. Hovering around a 100 deg daily so last evening put a new A/C unit in, This one only draws 9 amps instead of the old ones 27amp,

    Best thing it was free.

This weekend I cant decide to go to the Top Fuel dragsters at Sonoma raceway or go camping/Fishing/Jetskiing on the Delta let me know what you think.

  4. Passed my test & I'm off, No more push bike up Ilkeston rd.

The world has opened up, Now all that remains is to get enough petrol.

Honda 50 in the week big bike weekends actually ran out of petrol more on the Honda as never used to check it

Jacks Café. Sheds, White hart, Robins café , Middle gates, Matlock.

Did my Ton down the bully which was pretty hard to do as the bikes didn't do much more than that anyway.

Never was a drinker so the pub was for darts but got into too many fights so stopped going totally

when I moved to Nuthall I would go to the Log Cabin think it was in Kimberley if I remember right

Funny how you can go somewhere & not even know the name of the rd it was on , I could still drive to the sheds or the other places but don't know any of the road names.

Ten years later started planning my escape it took 5 years to get my papers for the USA & when received you get 30 days to show up at your point of entry, That means you have to get rid of everything you have in 30 days like House, cars, business etc

My port of entry was Chicago so my first job was there BUT I hate snow so loaded up the Mustang & it was go west young man 2300 miles later I'm in a cow town just north of San Francisco its funny but there were only 5000 people that lived here at that time including Charlie Manson who was a resident at the local Medical facility (Prison for the real crazy's)

You couldn't get lost there was only 2 streets now there are 57000 people & we have lived here longer than most.

It gets very hot but can always cool off in San Fran or go play in the snow up in the mountains or jump in the local lake.

  5. Every time I got pulled over & being that my dad sold motorbikes & was usually riding one that was not mine

I would give my name & address as a kid that used to beat me up everyday at school , Brian Bloor sorry Brian,----------------------------Not really

Tried it on Joe Thompson once he said I know you, You live round the corner from me .

  6. In May/June out in the countryside we get Noseeums millions of them they get everywhere bite turns into a welt that you are dying to scratch looks like you have been machine gunned

They will get you anywhere you have exposed skin or up your trouser legs & around your belt line In your ears they sound like a F1 car,

A couple of days with temps over a 100 they are gone.

Nothing seems to scare them off & one thing I learned is don't leave your car window open you will have them for a week.

  7. Anybody remember when the Beer lorry overturned on the Wigman rd island & all the kids ran off with cases of alcohol & hid it in the dens in the woods, That is the first time I ever got flat out drunk on cider that's the only thing I liked, Must have done something to me as I never liked booze might have a shandy once a year but that's it.

Beechdale pub was my regular as I liked playing darts.

It sounds like the kids on Elstree did pretty well in the career's they chose.

  8. No I wasn't allowed in the house I lived in the shed that's why it was all decked out with electronics & all the stuff I could get from the surplus store.

When I rented #39 I had to just about remodel the place who ever lived in it before was cooking in the hall near the front door as the kitchen floor was so rotten, The landlord tried to cover it up by laying new lino but as we were eating dinner the table started being dragged across the floor as the washing machine disappeared down a hole, Front room was the same I stepped off a ladder & straight through the floorboards,

It turned out there was permanent standing water that most likely ran down the train bank and settled in the trough if you remember the driveways were sloped down from the street.

Mel Thorpe lived next to me ,There was a lady we called the witch that lived opposite you on the inside corner

Carol Rook lived in the prefab behind the bus stop on Hollington rd

Anne Silkstone lived 2 doors down from #81

Kemps almost at the top back corner of Elstree

Never knew anybody who lived in the inside part of Elstree dr except for a couple that had a Poodle

Ps if you fell in the deep lock you just climbed the lock gates . Easy. Did it a few times once in winter along with my bike. Just had to remember to check yourself for leeches

Do you remember a place called Hot Sands you could poke a stick in the ground & it would come out burning it was behind where Farrands was built. melted both my bike tires.

  9. Hey Mess I thought you were Johnny Darch's younger brother but I think he lived at # 45

I do remember Rodger Staines bit of a lad .

Did you live in the bottom corner the right hand side of the semi ?

I lived in the house that had Little woods & was at the bottom of Tin bridge road

Then in 69 rented # 39 Elstree for a couple of years.

I did go to Beechdale school do you remember Harries the teacher

Then to Peveril ,No I didn't pass the 11+ didn't even know the test was coming.

  10. Waited until 66 to claim SSI that's the full pension age you get more but loose all that you could have claimed, It worked out to be $80 per month so I will be 105 before I break even already behind $36,000

On the other hand I can earn a lot more without penalty up to $60,000....................... 62-65 you can only earn $12,000.

Spouse gets 50% of the highest earner no more no less

    Claim online SSI.gov.

  11. Everytime I get my pension I feel a little guilty .I told my wife & she says the same ,She says she feels like a leach so much that she just gave away 2 years of hers just because she didn't want to claim it.

It did get a bit easier when she went out and bought new furniture.

Now I just have to get her to claim her's from the Usa, she is already 3 years behind. No back pay here

Its funny but all our lives nobody has given us anything ,Now we know what someone on welfare feels like :jumping: :jumping: :jumping: :jumping: :jumping:
