Does any one know of any other names that Stadium Leisure at Basford was previously known by?
-
We used to go to Central Park (behind Palais) in the 80's and to a club on Huntingdon street we would cut through the Owd Boots pub to get there. I remember Eddie Kidd opening it but cant remember the name of it.

May have missed this in earlier pages, were they known as Stirland & Dakin's?
not sure i thought it was Stirland Trailer Fitters (or something similar)
Dad went on to work for Redferns after Bill finished, there was a very dodgy accountant (or thats what he said he was) called Warick. Was based at Hartley Road for a while and then up at Ilkeston.

Johnny Knowles.... that's a name from the past! Lisa, do me a favour please and tell him Kev from Thurgarton was asking after him? We had some great laughs together back in the 80's, but lost touch.
Thought of a few others , possibly gone now.... Derek Hayman (?) lived up Hyson Green, his missus was Maggie, Derek worked for Bill for many years. Bob Rutter was another one that comes to mind.
Derek is still alive and kicking, he is my dad and Maggie is my Mum. (they are still up the Green too)
Bob Rutter well the beer was bound to get him in the end.
Johnny Knowles moved to America but visits quite a few times a year so will pass on your message next time he pops in

Thanks for al the info. The picture i have where taken on my old phone show more details of the graves as we climbed over and flattened some of the overgrowth to get to them. I will get them off my laptop tonight and upload them for you.
Think the watertower fits with the steps too

sorry the ones on the Bing map

hi
Yes they are the steps i am asking about. Driving me mad trying to figure out what they are.
When we look at pictures of the hall it doesn't look the same as these staps as these go right up to a porch like area on the ruins that we have seen and visable on the link.

hello again. My daughter and i have revisited the burial ground and managed to get in side. we took some photos of the 4 very grand graves in there . If anyone is interested in them please let me know. The plot was very overgrown with brambles and bracken and was hard work.
Also can any one tell me what the area near the plot is. it is raised and has steps leading up to it.
sorry i cant copy the picture from google earth put if the plot is at the top of the page the area i mean is to the bottom near (behind) Trough Lane
Also does anybody know if and where the was a water tower in Watnall

i lived on Egypt Road and then Northgate as a child but that was 70's - 80's before that i lived on Ainsley Estate.

All these gardens were walled and behind the wall was a large orchard. At the back of the Hall the ground rose steeply, probably had been leveled for the building. Over this lay fields and quite close to the hall a burial ground enclosed by iron railings -- it was the family grave ground. I woder what happened to that when this gracious place was demolished. I walked the site in 1970 and could not believe my eyes. Not a brick or flower to say what had been there.
The family burial plot is still there in the middle of a cow field and looks like it is still maintained. It is a walled plot with railings with a huge tree in the middle of it.
it is visable on google maps
