  1. I played the drums for years, but never made the big time.Joined a few bands back in the day,as the band started to sound decent, the old triple came into play, booze, dope, and big egos.

I gave up the idea of being the next Ginger Baker. When I left for the States,my youngest son inherited the drum kit.

Now I am in my 3rd childhood,I often toy with the idea of buying a second hand set of drums.

If you want to start a band Dave, what will you call it? I'm sure the members could come up with a name. :)

  2. 1965 Vespa Sportiqe,complete with all the carriers,crash bars,fly screen,et'all,119 quid,17 quid deposit and 17/6d a fortnight repayment.9 quid to have the 'bubbles'and front mudguard chromed,at Lenton Electro Platers.

    A gallon of 2 stroke,3/1d.

Wages as an apprentice, just over a fiver a week.

That was really 'living on a budget'.

  3. Sitting on the curb as a little kid on a hot summers day,and the smell of the melting road tar, poking sticks into it.

Somehow getting it on your legs,me mam using butter to soften it,before scrubbing it off with smelly 'carbolic soap',that really 'takes me back'.

  4. The last time I was over in England,(2002)I was shocked at the price of food.It is no wonder that people on limited incomes have to budget their spending on food.

Locally we have 'farmers markets',fresh produce is at least half of the store prices, then there are 'meat markets'much the same in prices.

Just out of curiosity, what is the cost of a gallon of milk, or a loaf of bread?

  5. Do the couple who had their mobile home stolen have 'human rights',or is the law just for ethnic minorities?.

I find it hard to understand why the police cannot make an arrest.

So if you are a white Anglo Saxon, you would get busted for the same crime?.

Being politically correct I suppose,a load of b------s, 'what's good for one is good for all'.

  6. I have never complained about my lot in life, like you Ian, I have had my share of health issues, keeping my 'chin up'and having a positive attitude, has helped in defeating the cancer I had.

I am entitled to my opinion, and don't see why there should be a separate thread for us Cromwellians.

It is obvious you have never read an in depth history of England and the usurpers who claimed the English throne in 1066.But then again the 'Normans' didn't have any military aircraft:)

  7. Ian in answer to your posts, the tower of London and Windsor castle were built by a Frenchman,'William of Normandy',Buck house was built by a German. They were 'inherited'by the gang that followed.

The building of all the'Norman' strongholds/castles, was carried out by the conquered English/Anglo Saxons, they were beaten, starved and worked to death. The dead were thrown into the trenches, that were dug for the 'footings' of the walls.

The only thing the royals have built is a fortune.

Add a few paintings with the stamp collection pooh, she has plenty.

  8. If the Royals were not around, the tourists would still visit England. They visit the country to see the history, not to have afternoon tea with 'Liz and her gang'.

If the monarchy was abolished, the likes of the Tower of London,Buck house, Windsor castle, etc',would still bring in the visitors and their money.

  9. If you live in an area that has a high immigrant population, it is doubtful you would believe the low stat's.

I remember visiting cities in the UK,it looked as if the immigrants were 75% of the population.I am convinced the majority of people see violent crime on the increase, and they have a fear of the rise.

  10. A good musician is an artist, like a painter, sculptor, writer, or actor.Would you ask these people to give up what they love doing.

I make toy soldiers, and occasionally turn out illustrations,at 64 I am in my element, I am doing some of my best work in 40 years. If I was told to give it up, my answer would be a polite, b------s.

Experience is what 'old farts' have. :)

  11. "When I get older losing my hair, many years from now".

Well here I am at 64, been through many storms, but came back into the sunny side of life.

Every day is a blessing for me.

You can have money, fame and fortune, but good health, and a sense of humour, beats just about everything.

"You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometime, you get what you need.

  12. I do not miss the weather you have in the UK, after 'Goose fair', it was all down hill weather wise. The real killer for me was the dampness, that seemed to get to the bone marrow.

Living in Florida is just my cup of tea, it can become humid during the summer months, but it more than makes up for it in the winter, warm sunny days.

  13. My wife is an addict to making cards, we have one of the spare bedrooms as her workshop. There cannot be anything more she could purchase to make cards.

I do go along to some of the craft fairs, but to be honest, the stalls have nothing to my wifes' stock of paper, embellishments, rubber stamps, and all kinds of machines that emboss, cut fantastic lace type borders, it is endless.I put shelving on three walls with a working surface ,and cupboards below. These are all piled high with 'stuff', the floor is becoming storage space.

But she does some beautiful work on her cards.Scrap booking is her second addiction,I'm third. :)

  14. Had the good fortune to see 'the Who' last November,a terrific show.

The 'Stones' are still a force to reckon with, 50 years on.

Most of the bands we grew up listening to, are part of our lives today, who doesn't sing along to a Beatles song, that comes on the radio,or a band from way back. We were soaked in music from the bands that came into being during the 60s', it was truly a'music revolution'.

We came into the 60s' with the Americans dominating the charts, by the middle of the decade it was our home-grown bands that were filling the UK and US charts.

I'm sure alot of the music we listen to is for nostalgia, but I wouldn't go to see a band for that reason,I want to be'rocked out of my seat', and there are some old bands that can still do it.
