  1. So the famous write about their 'dope and booze' addiction, and expect people to pay good money to read about it.

They chose substance abuse,it wasn't forced on them.Whatever the outcome in their use of dope and booze, they first used it to get'high or a buzz'.

Countless people have suffered and died of substance abuse, and they never get to sell a book about it.They were not famous, but they were some ones son or daughter.

  2. In the last 10 years Robin Williams spent a lot of his time and money on entertaining the troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.

He also gave millions to various veterans organisations, constantly doing shows to raise money and awareness,to the plight of many homeless young veterans.

It is so easy to talk of the negatives when a person dies,we tend not to look at the positives in the same way.

Whether you liked his humour or not,he made us laugh,he was one of a kind.

Thank you,for all that you did in life Mr Williams,RIP.

  3. They are not 'one of us'and they only seem to represent themselves.

The real'working class union rep',disappeared in the early 60's.

I never understood the middle and upper class socialists. The ones I met in the 60's soon moved back into their own circles after the novelty wore off.

As a kid I was told to be proud of being 'working class'and to help those who struggle to help themselves. That was my mothers interpretation of 'Socialism'.

Today I still practice what I was taught 55 years ago.

  4. There seem to be no limits to what corporate CEO's,or people in high office will pay themselves.

If their pay was related to their production, they would be skint. The income of these parasites is out of control.

The money comes from the investors or the tax payers.

No one has learned anything over the last eight years, and so it goes on.

  5. Took the day off yesterday and went to the beach.

The temp'inland was around 107,and so humid, thought a 'dip' in the sea would cool us down. The ocean temp' was 85,with no breeze coming off the ocean, stayed about ten minutes.

Got home and stood under a tepid shower, soon cooled off, should know better than to hit the beach this time of the year.

  6. I remember going into the Admiral Rodney back in 1964,if the landlord kicked out the underage drinkers, the pub would have been empty.

We went up that way to a youth club, opposite the 'Rodney',don't remember the name of the place, maybe Chrissie can remember.

  7. Samuel Harvey V C' 1st battalion,York and Lancaster regiment, was also presented with the Legion of honor ( France),and the Order of S't George ( Russia).

He carried approx' 600 lbs of Mills'bombs( hand grenades),making a total of 12 return journeys over open ground between the trenches.

By the end of the war he had received a further 3 wounds. He enlisted in the regular army in 1905,and served with 'distinction' in India.Returning with his regiment in 1914,to be organized as part of the B.E.F. and on to France.

Many veterans become neglected and forgotten, even today our vet's are in need of help, but the governments drag their arses in caring for them.

'Old Contemptibles', the regular army that formed the B.E.F. the first British soldiers to fight the Germans. The name came from a remark made by the Kaiser. " That contemptible little army", they make us proud to come from such stock.

  8. During the world cup,I would listen to some of the games while I was working. One of the games were two South American teams playing.

If I hadn't known,It sounded like Chelsea and Arsenal were playing.

England must give the 'home grown' youngsters a chance at top class football,I think we saw the result in the English squad.

  9. 50 years ago last Friday I left school to start my life in the big bad world.

This week was the last caravan holiday at 'Golden Sands' caravan site with the family.

It was also the same week I went to see 'A Hard Days Night'.

It all seems such a long time ago,but at the same time it has'flown by'.

We have all come a long way since 1964,and I am sure we have shared the same 'trials and tribulations',getting where we are today.

I posted this as it seemed to be a milestone, never thinking at 15, where or what I would become in life.

  10. Interesting to read the posts made by the members on this thread.

I bought into the idea of humans being responsible for 'global warming',but then I looked into the facts as written by some experts. Not so sure we are at fault, the climatic history shows that natural disasters have dramatically changed the worlds weather.

The earthquake that hit Japan, tilted the Earths axis, only slightly but it happened. In my humble opinion,I think we will have another 'Ice age' before a 'green house effect' takes place.
