  1. Randy Reid, his kid brother posts on the site.

If memory serves me right he rode a metalic green Lambreta with chrome side panels, lived in Bulwell.

Sad to hear that Chris past away, one of the 'early' crowd at the Bung,(not heard that for years).

Did know a Frank Cocayne, not sure where he was from,it might have been Toton or Attenborough.

  2. The time taken by parents to teach their kids the social graces, behavior, and the need to learn, seem to be a thing of the past.

Many parents think the teacher should be responsible for parenting, and teaching their kids.If bad manners and bad behavior are allowed in the home, what chance is there for the rest of the kids in the classroom.

Most teachers are dedicated to their profession, but in the last 30 years have been fighting an uphill battle, overcrowded and under funded schools.

Now the added problem of immigrant kids, not able to speak or understand basic English. The future belongs to our grandchildren,I almost despair at the future they will inherit.

Some time in the very near future, we will be forced to make a stand against the Establishment, and say, "No more, enough is enough".

I often wonder what my dad or grand-dad would make of the world today.

  3. 'Little Eric',has gone by the name of Mathew since 1971.A gang of us rented a big old house on Derby grove decades ago.

First time I met him was around 65/66,at the ' Mojo',gave him a lift back to Nottingham, and we became good mates.

You could always rely on 'Eric' to liven up a party or start a riot.

A generous and warm hearted guy, once you got past his roguish image.

  4. Charity shops or Good Will stores, as they are called here, are on the increase. Some of them are the size of a supermarket, and are always busy.

If there wasn't any need for them, there wouldn't be so many around,I have said it before, "the poor are getting poorer", and have to look into buying from these places.

Compo, we have a 'Junk market' out in the country-side,seven acres of every kind of item imaginable.I had to stop visiting, my garage is full of 'Treasures', from tin signs to late Victorian glass bottles, the cost was a dollar or two.

You would be in your element, visiting this place.

  5. 'Benefit scroungers' are not a recent by-product,they have been around for a long time.

I well remember in the 60's, as an apprentice on 4 quid a week, there were guys getting 3 times more and they never worked. They knew how to 'screw' the system.

Always had money to, booze, smoke, and spend their afternoons in the 'bookies'.

The difference with 'them' and us,is that we had a certain amount of pride and dignity, being brought up with a certain set of principles.

Today some people seem to think the world owes them everything, and have a real attitude, almost contempt, for the rest of society, not having the intelligence to think about where their 'benefits' come from.

Plus the fact there has never been so many 'claimants', as there are today. Again, it is the real needy people who are the ones to suffer.

I once made a claim for unemployment benefit, in the winter of 1965, (the 'building trade' came to a stop due to the severe cold),I was sent to the NAB office,Sitting there for hours in the company of 'deadbeats',I was given 3 quid, after what I would call a 'means test'.

Never did it again,I worked hard to make sure I had money put by, just in case.

  6. I can remember back in the mid 60's,we began to use words like, cool, man, chicks, etc'the older generation must have thought the same thing about us.

Back then, I think we had more going for us, in regards to entertaining ourselves, and we never had much money.

If you had ten bob on a Tuesday night you were 'rolling in it'.

  7. Some two years ago the New York city fire department decided to print and sell t-shirts,in remembrance of their fellow firemen lost in 9/11. The profit of sales going to the families.

I mailed a cheque and ordered four t-shirts,I got an e-mail a few months later saying they were hard pressed coping with such a massive demand, and an apology.

Last Friday I got another e-mail,the 'N Y city lawyers' had stepped in,the firemen had gone beyond their contract, and could not take public money, it had to go through the city council.

All the money sent to the fund is now in the hands of the Lawyers. An estimated 9 million t-shirts were ordered at $10 each.

The N Y city lawyers are paid by the tax money from the public. The firemen can't fight it in court, because of their cotract.

    Mean spirited,heartless,selfish,money grabbing b------s.

  8. One of the fundamental issues in Syria,is that the so called 'civil war or revolution'is between the Sunni and Shiite

    factions of the Islamic world.

If we help one against the other we will bring more retaliation. as in Iraq and Afghanistan, more bombings in Europe and the US,and protests from Muslim people worldwide.

The use of chemical weapons is deplorable, and so called 'surgical air strikes'can hardly stop what is happening on the ground. It will take a full blown invasion, and who will do that?

The American people are tired of war, young men are still coming home in body-bags, the wounded still fill the hospitals.

My idea would be to empower the United Nations, to do what it was created for,to stop international wars,Europe the UK and America have paid untold millions into this entity.

Or we could sit back and watch the Islamic factions in the Middle East destroy each other.

  9. The G 20 meeting, would seem to have an under the table agenda, whether or not some kind of coalition can be formed.

So that America can feel justified in the 'surgical' bombing of Syria.

As if it hasn't got enough on its plate.

  10. 1965,the start to a whole new world, music, people, places, and freedom (to a point).

My first outing as a mod,to Skeggy on my new scooter, Whitsun bank holiday.I think most of the 'mod population' of Nottingham made their way to skeggy that week-end.

'The Dungeon',what else can be written about this incredible place,if you went their you know what I mean.

The music, a banquet for the ears,so many great songs and the artists who recorded them,From the Temptations to the Who.

The people, are the ones that made it all possible,I refer to you, the guys and gals of Nottingham, who from 1965 put our great city on the map.Strangers came to the city to soak up the atmosphere in the clubs and coffee bars,or to hang out in the 'old market square'.

There are one or two other years I recall with fondness, but 1965 stands out the most.

  11. A pot of Earl Grey made with loose tea, every afternoon around 3-30, during the week.

Never drink it from a mug always a cup,a little milk in first then the tea, a couple of McVities half covered plain chocolate digestive biscuits, and I'm good to go for a few more hours. "Remember, the Empire was built on a good cup of tea".

Who use to say that, was it Tony Hancock?
