  1. Nope to all answers! and ta for not jumping on tinternet to get the answer, not that im sure it would be there, but it was a guy called Christopher Sandford, as Walter Potts, who released the song "Not too little, not too much" on Decca, which, sadly, i still have! He even made it into the pop mags of the time, modelling menswear!

You who said about Peter Noone are also correct, but it was not the answer i was after, apart from that Hermans Hermits werent on Decca.

Edit to add; just researched a bit more about him, he was on the pirate radio station Radio 390 in the 60's, and also appeared in an episode of Dangerman, blimey, anyone remember that series?

  2. Id be tempted to play "Me and Mrs Jones" by Billy Paul, its a song about a mans infidelity, and how he meets his bit on the side, at the same time, in the same cafe each day.

This should liven up what could otherwise be a dull event.

    Signed, the professional music chooser.

  3. Mentioned elsewhere, Kev Roberts has a radio station called VIP, its available on Sky 0196, or online, if you like soul, northern, motown, disco, mod, and many other genres of music, its definitely worth checking out.

Again as mentioned before, as far as im aware, its the only place in the UK to hear the legendary "Mouth" Chris Ashley, however, dont expect the same kind of show he was famous for on Trent and Century from earlier years, this is him playing "mod" music, with far less interuptions!

  4. The use of words is good too isnt it, even for an American....25 percentage......hmmm.....yep....all Yanks say that dont they.must be a genuine e mail, just like the one i got recently from the Coca Cola company advising me id won a fortune..........hey, as soon as i get it im gonna buy 12 million cans of diet coke.............................. !rotfl!

  5. My husbands Uncle used to own the Pleasure Park, his name was Cortrey.

He also owned Bell Fruit at Lenton. This was probsbly why he could afford the first E type Jag in Nottingham, a red one I believe.

    A ;)

Werent Bell Fruit owned by Bendix Electronics, hence their name?

  6. Soooo many songs..............im not in love 10cc, black friday steely dan, moonshine sally , mud, the hustle van mccoy, i cant give you anything but my love, stylistics, eighteen with a bullet, pete wingfield, rock n roll hymn, kevin coyne, barnados, typically tropical,. more when me brain starts to work again!

    And agreed with your comment!

  7. Surely Brutus "when i wake up, in the morning light i pull on my jeans and i feel alright........................i pull brutus jeans on.......... i pull my brutus jeans on............." were not around until the 70's? As for some more quality yanky brands, Dickies and Lee were good at the time.....

  8. These boys, from London ,came to the Dungeon, in either 66 or 67,and went down well. At the time they had 2 of their records played there, one was a cover of the Marvellettes Ill keep on holdin on, the other, Baby you got it, did anyone go and see them?

Just remembered, some of the band later evolved into Ace who had a hit in 74 called How Long, which later featured in Radio Trents test transmission.

  9. In the mod era, it was law that you had a suit, and being a law abiding citizen,( "Honestly officer, i have no idea what these blue tablets are!") i went along with it.

As mentioned somewhere else, i ordered a suit from March the Tailors, it was somewhere around where Next is almost opposite to the old Odeon.

I should add that it HAD to be made to measure, no self respecting mod would have ready made!

I somehow managed to get 9 bob together for the deposit, and set offf with my mate for the tailors.

Now, at the time bottle green was immensely popular, but, being a big "Avengers " fan, and being impressed by how smart John Steed looked, i chose pinstripe

To be "in" you either had a long centre vent (mine was 13") or twin vents that were slightly shorter usually 12", anything less was ridiculed! Also, it was mandatory to have the jacket"waisted, and flared", basically it went in just below the chest area, and flaired back out again lower down. There didnt seem to be any rules about the trousers, except they had to be paralell, and i selected 16" bottoms, which by comparison to now, are extremely narrow, but remember we had more or less just come out of the drainpipe era.

Suit ordered, i now had to find the 18 bob a week to pay for it, and luckily got one at the local co op, stacking shelves and delivering grocery orders, on the bike, ala Ger ger ger Granville in Open all hours!

  10. Ah, Jeffs on Hockley, id forgotten that one, but i do remember those cord Wrangler jackets, speaking of which, a mate had a Levi jacket made of a light tan hide of some sort, with a darker collar, selling at 18 guineas, compared to the denim jackets 63 bob! It was a while later on, in the 70's that just popping into Machins on Peveril st, unearthed a treasure trove of original 501's, that had apparently gone out of fashion as flares were the order of the day, so they were just left in the stock room.

Basically, id seen the Fonz in "Happy Days" wearing 501's, as were de riguer for any biker in the States, and going through a ridiculous Fonz dressalike stage, !rotfl! went trawling around the shops to see if anyone still had them in, i still have them!

Back to the 60's bit though, what footwear did you wear with your jeans, at one time, it was the fashion to wear Desert or Fell boots with them for casual, but brogues if you wore your suit jacket, for a smarter effect. That reminds me......actually, ill stick it in a new thread, cos this ones about jeans!

  11. Meant to add, istill have that original pair, 29" waist!!!! obviously they are in a slightly worn condition!

Now, did you know, there are shops on and around Carnaby St in London that still sell the , what i call "proper" 501, with the salvage seem finished in a white edge with red stitching,(or vice versa, havent got em to hand to check)..so guess how much?

£500!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and i still have several pairs!..anybody wanna buy some?

  12. Dunno how or why i had them, but i had a pair of Wrangler jeans that were cut offs, made into shorts, before i got a full length pair. but, my first pair of "real " jeans were Levi 501's bought from Stevensons on Radford Rd, for 52/6d !and, a short time later, a shirt very similar to the one Stevie Winwood from Spencer Davis group had, bought from "Jeffs Fashion Centre on Alfreton rd

Eventually too, after a lot of me pestering her, my mum bought me a Levis jacket, again from Stevensons, paid for with a Provident shoppers check! Unfortunately, this was stolen from her washing line, having survived my scooter crash on the A1 previously................ :(
