  1. Pete Lemon isn't on the photo's,he had real blonde hair,a round, ruddy face, always wore a full length green leather coat.

He was a few years older than most of us. Maybe they are mistaking Ray Tass for Pete Lemon.

I remember his coat! And unless I'm mistaken, he also wore a Levi jacket, can't remember if it was a normal denim one, or the light tan suede with the brown leather collar..........?

As for his hair, my memory is telling me it had a very very light ginger tinge to it, as opposed to real blonde....?

  2. It's been an age since I have been on here, but someone mentions Pete Lemon being in the two pictures.........buggered if I can see him in them!

He saved my mate from a worse beating by "The Mini Boys" one night at the top of Stanford Street, they had mistakenly thought my mate had something to do with some Goose Fair lads smashing a window and causing some trouble at The Dungeon.

Incidentally, I have just found my UN sent application form for membership there, along with a photo, and a false date of birth, ill scan them and post on here when I do!

  3. Just remembered why I stopped going there! what about the real mod bands The Who, Small Faces, even Quo! to say nothing of live rock gigs there, once saw The Jaybirds there plus of course Jimi

I knew Jimi had performed in Nottingham, didn't think it was at The Dungeon though? Beachcomber I recall. Just checked, it was, and he was supported by Jimmy Cliff who was also popular in Nottingham due to his King Of Kings song, and as of yet unreleased Give And Take.

Anyway, you just reminded me Ash, songs by The Who were often played there, as were The Small Faces, but The Quo?

  4. Peter, Paul and Mary ...........Leaving on a Jet Plane .

    Esther and Abbi Ofarim.........Cinderella Rockerfella

    New Vaudeville Band..............Winchester Cathederal

Just a couple i could think of ........................................................slywink

I know I could't have been there every night it was open, but I never heard ANY of those there! Apart from that, surely by the time Esther and Abi's song was released, The Dungeon had ceased to be The Dungeon, and was.......Eight till late? And according to Wiki "Jet Plane" was released late 69, mind you the site is not 100% accurate! Correct me if I'm wrong though!

And Paulus out of those songs you mention, only Georgie's song was really the only non soul track, and at that it was a re make of a soul song.! :)

  5. Whilst the music played at The Dungeon on Stanford St was mainly of the aforementioned variety, there were also many tracks that were not.

Just thought I would try and compile a list to bring back memories, if you went there too, please feel free to add to it.

Mamas & Papas Monday Monday, and I saw her again

    Manfred Mann Pretty Flamingo.

    Georgie Fame Getaway.

Small Faces Hey Girl, All or nothing.

The Action Baby you got it, I'll keep on holding on.

    Beatles Theres a place.

    Jimmy Cliff Give & Take

Prince Buster Al Capone and 10 Commandments

    Chris Farlowe Out of time.

    Alan Bown Set Headline news

    More when I remember them!

  6. Re Pillion passengers, think most guys who rode bikes were no good on the back, certainly the case with me!

When I was still at Northgate primary school, a mate, Pete Butler had a 350 Goldie, with the necessary fibreglass tank and racing seat, with the swept back exhaust etc, and I would give him 2 bob to take me on the back to Bulwell and back, from New Basford.

I had to hang on for dear life (obviously to under the seat, as only girls held on elsewhere! ) along Vernon Rd and Highbury Vale!

  7. BLIMEY! I think that was my form, except for whatever reason I was not in the pic.....mind you I did miss a bit of school every now and then!

So, if I am not mistaken, some of the lads there, Steven Farmery sitting left of the teacher,as you look at the pic, the blonde lad behind the teacher is David ? Lancaster, the tall lad with the grumpy face was Canadian, Bruin was his surname, can't remember his first, and I reckon the lad at the top left was Stefan Dollar,I think the black lad on the back row in glasses was called Bernard, but I cant remember if that was his first or last name, I do recall certain teachers pronouncing it the American way, Bern_Ard the rest of the boys look so familiar, but I'm damned if I can remember any more names, and even the ones I have mentioned may be wrong!

The Beatles had certainly influenced hair styles at this time, and I remember getting the cane off Jack (Aram) because my hair was half an inch too long over my collar!

  8. Well I was only young, and went on what my older mates told me, it was a bit along the lines of why some people don't venture up there after dark now.......

But let's face it, back then lots of people didn't lock doors or cars even, in many areas.

  9. Val, good to see Alan has you trained!! (joke!)

The pic on the Squeezebox will sometimes display the DJ on air, but many don't, and you just get a generic symbol or similar, you should have texted me and I'd have given you a mention!

Mick, we play an across the decades selection, with a far bigger selection played than any other station, especially those like Capital, where you will hear the same damn song every 3 minutes I believe!

I nm still on the soul show for the next 2 weeks, so hurry and listen before I hand it back to who gave it me originally!

  10. Thanks Val! And Mick, the signal theoretically should only cover the Amber Valley, but it does stretch, I was on Nottingham Rd New Basford last Sunday getting my car washed and it was coming across loud and clear.

The way to listen if you're outside the region (Limey!) is via www.ambersoundfm.com. In fact I had a listener today from Queensland Oz, one from Stabbo, and another from Highbury Vale.

  11. As I mentioned just over a year back, I had been pulled out of radio retirement, to do the once a week soul show on a smaller station than the ones I had previously been on...Trent....who? you know who I mean! Century Gem, in AM form etc.

Anyway, I now am back on air five days a week (ouch!) hosting "The East Midlands Biggest Request Show! on Ambersound FM 107.2, based in Ripley, serving The Amber Valley, and further afield, in fact I was in Beech Avenue and picking it up loud and clear in the car the other day!

It's also on the usual www.ambersoundfm.com, so tune in and have a song played, all you need to do is text me on 60300, start the message Amber, leave a space, and then your request, name etc!

If you do, try and mention Nottstalgia, but keep the message short as the type of system we use only allows a certain amount of words per text.
