Sorry Brian, am I missing something here, in your first post you criticize the place, and in your second post, you recommend it........?

  2. That was very cheap for mohair Jan, my wool worsted ones from March the tailor was eighteen guineas made to measure, but because I was still at school, I had to pay eighteen bob a week, having had to get a job stacking shelves and delivering groceries on a bike at the local Co op!

Actually, how the hell did I get HP when I was just a school kid?

  3. Following on (yet again!) from the previous two sellout doos, myself and Terry from Boogieshooze Disco, will be hosting another night of great music, to raise funds for The Nottingham Hoods, who, at this moment that I write, are 2nd in the league, brilliant for their first season dontcha think!

The club is on Claremont Rd off Sherwood Rise.

Anyway,as always, tickets and more details via Linda, on 07729 496 491

OOPS!!! I forgot I'd already posted one of these...........hey ho!

  4. Signed immediately, although couldn't see any reference to the reintroduction of steam or the reopening of New Basford :Fool:

    Cheers

When I was a small kid, my mum would take me down Haydn Rd to catch the train into town to Victoria station, and the driver and his mate would very often allow me to stand alongside them, was it referred to as the footplate?

  5. GitYerSenDarn Burtons Black Slim Mod Suit £49 quid.

    Black Slim Mod SuitGet down

That suit bears absolutely no resemblance to the sort mods in Nottingham wore.

Ours were "waisted and flaired", basically meaning they tapered in at the waist, and flaired back out a little lower, ticket pockets above one jacket pocket, or sometimes two, more buttons than necessary on the sleeves, and, of course OTT vent lengths.

  6. Never heard about that either, you have to admit though, at the time there were tons of Motown soundalike songs.

Ah, Pete, the good old days, of when you had 15 seconds left on a track, and hadn't cued anything else up! PANIC!!!!!!!

Added: Just read that Motown were suing lots of people at the time for anything that sounded like it was on Motown.

Len Barry's 123 was sued too for sounding like The Supremes Ask Any Girl, just cos the first 3 notes sounded similar. They even got flack on the follow up, Like A Baby, and in the end gave 15% of the writers and publishers share of profits to Motown.

The site where I found that info also mentions the Cant Satisfy/This Old Heart thing.

  7. Having decided to retire myself from radio for numerous reasons, round journeys of 100+ miles, dropping rates of pay, networking meaning less jobs etc, I recently had a call from someone I know who has a radio station in Ripley.

It was "one off" cover for their soul show, which I did, and then last week, did it again.

Due to some internal changes there, I was offered the gig on a regular basis, which I accepted, and started last night.

The show is broadcast Tuesday evening 9 till 12, first hour 80's through to current, Luther Vandross, Atlantic Starr etc,

second hour is all Motown, mainly from the 60's, and the third hour is northern soul.

Now, whilst the fm signal is powerful, its easier to listen online, just Google amber sound fm.

I hope you will give it a listen!
