  1. Ordoyno... what terrifying memories that brings up! He was the most horrific thug at Mundella,-taught(?) maths. An ace expert at smashing desk lids down on fingers and heads,...crack shot with the board rubber and other missiles, and an awful temper to boot!

This guy sounds like the love child of a lot of teachers at Chandos St. Netherfield

  2. Just thought I'd pop back in here after a little toaster related incident this morning, my present wife overdid her toast and I blurted out something I've not said , or heard for years, 'yuv bont it tu boggery'. Got a very strange look.

  3. Friday nights were a treat for me, up to the Windsor Castle at the bottom of Carlton Hill with my dad checking in his pigeons for the next days race. Saturday night at the BRSA in Netherfield, crisps, lemonade and perhaps something from the Kershaw basket. Sunday, dad on his way home from sugar beet brought in mars bars, caramac, an ice cream block and a bottle of Tizer to mix with said ice cream. yum yum

  4. Nice to see Mabos raised its head again, everything is still here. Indeed exciting times, talk of a tidal swimming pool being built no less, events later in the year include The buskers festival and in Sept The Bathing Beauties weekend, Sat 16th of March is The Motor Bike festival held mainly around The Queens Park area, further updates to follow.

  5. Just thought I'd give this a "bump" A lot of new folks on the site since this topic first aired. Maybe dig up some new memories.

I was at Chandos 1958/62, previously at Ashwell St, strangely enough I posted yesterday (26th) regarding the corporal punishment that took place and the teachers who dealt it out. In my time there, the staff, I recall were Messrs. Marsh, Winters, Fox, Stanley, Brazier, Quartermaine, Parker, Jones, Marshall (aka Mad Mick) Still and Pike (woodwork) Whittington/ham PE. dont remember the metalwork teacher though.

  6. I had the dubious pleasure of attending Chandos St School in Netherfield 58/62, (a safe haven for a bunch of power crazed teachers) corporal punishment was rife, from Mr Marsh the headmaster (cane), Mr Winter (rubber tubing from the science lab), PoP Stanley (slipper), Mr Brazier (strap) Mad Mick Marshall RE teacher(cane) Mr Jones (clip behind the tab) Mr Fox (well aimed piece of chalk, or blackboard rubber whichever was the handiest) Mr Still and Mr Pike (woodwork, chisel between the fingers or lump of wood to any part of the body) PE teacher, name escapes me, (slipper). Happy days.

  7. I always liked the smell of creosote, even volunteered to do the fence a few times. Going back to the old rec in Netherfield, remember some pipe laying going on in the 50s and there was a night watchman with his little hut and a coke burning brazier, loved the smell of burning coke.
