  2. Dave48, #15, Yknow i used to walk down Hurts Yard every day in the 70s either to go to work or the pictures, Odeon or ABC, i would look in the window of the record shop and think it was deserted, not been down there for about 20 years, thank you for tthe reminder, will certainly take a look next week, also Compo #11, i am green with envy, lovely player, reminds me of an old Alba my dad had when we lived in the prefab wigman Rd, black and grey, with a handle on the side lovely memories.

  3. would you believe it, Women, the wife, bless her, came up with the idea, "I would like a record player, just like the one i had as a teenager", now that was over 50 years ago, So, after about 30 odd years of CD, Tape, Streaming we are going backward technology, i have, through the years, binned dozens of records, old players, music centres etc, now got to buy new ones, if i can find em, she must think im a magician, i think i am. found a record player she likes in Currys/Argos, about 70.00 quid, no problem but where the heck do i find the records, ideas from her, Eden Kane, (bloody EDEN KANE), Gerry & the Pacemakers, Stylistics and so on, now i look for the old record shops, none, and what records i find are modern singers, Women, oh for a peaceful life,

  4. Catfan, #121, fully agree, i had one week, skeggy, i remember i had a bladder problem, so one night, monday think it was, wet the bed, was only about eight/nine, deeply ashamed then, and now still, was made, in front of everyone, to strip the bed, wash the sheets and blankets, mangle em, bloody mangles, hated them ever since, and hang them all out to dry, had to eat on my own, walk on my own, and sit on my own all day, That night had to wait till everyone had gone to bed, then remake my bed, whilst they all watched, and only then could get in bed, also comes to mind one day we all went to the swimming place, i think it was where the Embassy is now, i had no swimming gear, couldn't afford it, so they lent me something to put on, shorts about three sizes too big, god embarrased aint in it, Best bit about Skeggy Holiday Camp, arriving home

  5. for about 6 years we had the same call every day between 4:30 & 6:00 for a Mr Ayre, whoever he was, Sandra would slam the phone down, i would try to explain, every time, Mr Ayre dont live here, never lived here, the only reason we had the phone on was for Dad, when he was alive, quite ill and would call us anytime day or night for us to go help him, the last call, after he passed away i told the caller quite calmly, for me that is, this phone is now a dead phone, deceased, no longer beeping, its been unconnected ever since, far as i can tell never been missed, any calls needed i use me mobile.

  6. there all there now, big depot in the sky, Butler the driver, bob, the conductor, Blakey, the Inspector, Doris Hare, mother, Arthur and his motorbike all waiting for Olive, must be comedy in heaven today

  7. Compo, #1 - i could add about another ten ticks for different items to be beaten with, a teacher at school, 6ft 4in of quivering muscle, threw a wooden blackboard rubber at me knocking me out, good laugh for the class, had six of the can on each hand for tearing, (by accident), a page in a book, mind you teachers were learners compared to home, but made me the man i am today, 9 stone of quivering jelly
