  2. dazza71, welcome, i was born in bilborough in 1945, lived in the prefabs, as they were then, wigman rd, went to the infants school, remember MR Howarth, caretaker living in the house at side of the school gates, did not go to juniors as was ill and went to Arboretum special school, but went to Glaisdale seniors for about 11 months, nice to have another Bilboroughite with us, again most welcome

  3. the most beautiful sound, to me, i will never hear again, my mum saying, as an answer to a question, to me, (even at 58 years old), YES MY LAMB, silly old bat always said that to me from about 4 years old, loved her to bits, miss her like well you get the picture. i am 70 in october, love to hear her one more time. Sorry guys, morbid i know, but nice to be able to share this thought with you all. Thanks

  5. went to Players school from 1956 - 1960, took the wife to bilborough, from Eastwood, yesterday, went up Denewood Cres. for notstalgias sake, came to the gates the school is a great big pile of bricks and rubbish, all gone. now i hated that bloody school and every day served there but quite choked when i saw it, weird.

  6. All it takes for Evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing, England, France, America, and other countries have all suffered civil wars, the people living, albeit years ago, at that time fought in those civil wars, they did not run, in the main, they had little to fight with but eventually succeeded, we live in a more modern world, with modern weapons but running away from your home and letting evil win is not the answer, what, and i believe it will happen, when this kind of conflict erupts again in some part of Europe, here, france, germany, etc. will these people, welcomed eventually into these countries run again, if you get my drift, to see our futures look to our pasts. just a personal view

  7. every weekday for 5 years saw Players Sec mod School as a schoolboy in the late 50s, took wife to Bracebridge shops this a.m. - went along Denewood Cres. and onto Chingford, school gone, pile of Bricks, gates rusted up, i mean i hated that school, and the bullys that went with it, but i was really choked to see it gone, funny isn't it. got me to remembering teachers i had not thought of for over fifty years, Mr Gallagher, Head Teacher, Mr Jones, Mr Inskeep, form teacher, Mr Auckland, R.E., Mr Caulfield History, Mr Mills, music. perhaps names not meaning a deal to the rest of us but me. here i go tearfully mooding again, Sorry folks,

  9. The scariest prog on tv i remember was when i was about 9 yrs old, we had a 7" telly black & white obviously 1953/4 - me and my sister would usually be in bed by 8 pm, we lived in a prefab on wigman rd. i crept out of bed and peeked from behind the sofa at the tv, mam couldn't see or hear me and on the telly was a film called The Mystery of the Marie Celeste, about a ship that was found sailing with no one on board, i watched for about 30 mins and was terrified by it, mam finally found me, got me a good ;belting that time. been scared of horror films ever since.

  10. mick2me post #2, watched the video for about 4 mins, now i am sitting at home looking at a screen and i feel sick and woozy watching, god knows how these lads can do this, on the one hand you have to say, bloody stupid idiots etc. but then again they have obviously got guts i mean would you do it.

  11. sorry about post #11, sort of rambled a bit, but i know what i meant, hope you all can decipher it, it just makes me mad that there is so much wrong these days that could be put better using cash that these (clever), blokes want to spend on so called faster, better schemes.

  12. in these days when business men can contact each other within minutes using Skype, or hold meetings using tablets, laptops, iphones etc. and in time to come these technologies will get better and faster why would anyone want to spend billions of pounds building a system that will take, when completed, (sic), hours to take businessmen to meetings etc. families using train transport to meet each other aint bothered about an extra hour or so on the train, i think the extra cost, to cover the building of the system will not be missed on ticket sales. Also as with the Motorway, what about maintenance work, upkeep of all the infrastructure and once started, as always happens, what about finishing on budget, on time and anyone, don't care how clever or knowledgable they are, who thinks this will be built at the planned cost/time, who thinks it will is barmy. it is said 2015 it will power the north bringing work, money, etc. taking over 15, 20, 25, 30 years to complete by 2045 sy, the whole rail, road, air network will have to be re built. me as you all know i aint clever, bottom of the ladder, dullest knife in the drawer and so on but even i can see this is, will be, the biggest white elephant ever. thats my opinion, for what its worth. But Government, no matter which, is so arrogant they will pursue their white elephants no matter what.
