As i remember if 2 kids had a fight every kid in the school would chant scrap scrap scrap it was amazing how long it was allowed to continue think some teachers turned a blind eye .did not want there name painted on the school roof...

I remember brian did a bit of boxing can remember having a fight with him on bunbury st we got on most of the time we were just being lads.I am really sorry to hear brian is no longer with us where have the last 45 years gone.

We were approached to be in a film called Ragmans Daughter filmed in Meadows we did not go no financial advantage but some of our mates did they can be seen in the film on a train supposedly on their way to borstal if my memory serves me right i dont knowi if any of them were called hoss or if im getting mixed up with another cowboy.

I was a skinhead because rockers/hells angels where into motor bikes mods where into demos and education oh and both had long hair and looked scruffy.I was a Forest supporter but not a thug which is hard when a lot of people around you like hitting people i spent more time dragging people off needless to say that phase did not last long oh and no skinheads i knew where into drugs i think rockers and students participated in wacky stuff thats what a good education gave you. What was your thing when you left school and why Oh yes is there any ex skinheads on this site

Hey up Denshaw find it a bit frustrating that i cant vision Glebe st when i get a minute ill look in my books i am pretty sure theres a picture did you go to tb or roland green our mark went to roland green can you remember the petrol station on the other side of the road on arkwright st what i can remember is those little advertising boards advertising forest and county matches.Have you seen st saviors church and vicarage down the meadows now never really noticed it as a kid but against modern buildings they are like a breath of fresh air.Cant remember many kids from your side of arkwright st my mates mam had the Magpie Cafe on meadow his name was melvyn langsdale lived in WB unfortunately he died at aged 21 brain tumor.Did you become a skinhead i did infashion only .There doesent seem to be any ex skinheads on this site they wernt all thugs .

Hi denshaw sorry just found one of your posts from march not to good with computers you seem to have known acouple of people i knew has iremember there where 2 oldnowes iknew one i think was in my class at tb was it micheal how old are you denshaw where was glebe st did it connect to arkwright st i knew it very well just cant recall . location was there a factory on the corner.

I was born on willersley st 1954 all moved into me grans 28 wilford grove when i was in my teens. Denshaw are you from meadows and if so which part.

I went to Nottingham Council House today for a birth certificate WOW what a lovely interior although meadows born and bred i have never been inside even the loos are speicial anyway i paid me 25 quid and told to return in an hour.i thought iwould have a walk into the meadows i could not work out how the Poets was so close to BRIDGEWAY HALL when iwas a kid there was arow of houses running inwards then there was the Duke of newcastle then Bells hardware shop then Willersley ST with the Poets on the opposite corner can someone enlighten me.Went for a bit of anostalgic walk to the library nothing in there of interest walked along wilford cresent towards TBS like i had done every morning and dinner time whilst at school i turned left at muskham st and was quite amazed to see the wash house entrace and plaque were still there although you could not enter the building from there i went round to the main entrance which they have made quite ugly although the steps and old entrance remained.I enquired at reception about any of old stuff still in tact the lady asked a young guy to show me around and i was absolutely thrilled to find the pool and cubicals more or less the same as when i and later my son learnt to swim there has children.but unfortunately the old wash house where me mam used to toil had gone replaced with an empty sports hall i found that very sad because when i were a nipper it was an hive of activity and the machinery in there could have told the younger generations how lucky they are .My mams friends husband was a chuffuer for one of the brewerys directors and today brought back memories of him picking us and our washing up in a Rolls Royce opening the door for us dressed in his uniform avery rare accurence on Bunbury St.The young guy that showed me around told that the council were planning to sell Portlands Baths in its entirety shame it cant be saved should we start a petition and try and save itWhilst walking round all the modern crap i stumbled upon St Saviors church and vicarage i had forgotten that stood there and was amazed that it had not been demolished refreshing that some things are left unspoilt. Although me mam and dad have been dead a few years now im sure THE OLD MEADOWS is where they are holding hands and laughing because thats the place they were at there happiest and like so many never seemed happy once it was dem olished

An abundance of special people our generation is the first to be allowed to age in our own time and cannot contemplate what those old characters had to endure we were not packed off to war when we were still wet behind the ears and we dont have to forget what we should not know. What they endured was what made them unique. God bless them all .

My son is a computer artist working in seattle on a game called Portal 2 he was interviewed by a games magazine he explained that he would probably change a female character called Chell changing her facial features and her dress both of which would not be anything unusual how from some innocent honest answers from my son does this warrant line after line ofhints that hes racist sexist for goodness sake shes a games character .When some games are very very graphic in a violent and aggressive manner and nobody blinks an eye the modern world dont you just love it.

Thanks for that information i am a grand prix fan and had no idea never even heard of him do know they had real B...s in them days bit surprised he wasnt from the meddas .Modern day GP drivers would not even sit in the car ALF and SAFETY.

Hopewells had a branch in Derby up until recently they have built a westfields centre in place of eagle centre hopewellswas nearby think now demolished .

I worked at hopewels in the 70s i cant remember anything changing ,i think it was the 70s ithought hopewells had been there a long time.

There wont be many reading this page that dont have fond memories of their parents and their characteristics and realise what a hard life they endured bringing us up i dont know about anyone else but i would be interested in what made your parents the best. Dad buying me crisps and pop outside cresent pub on sunday dinner after him having worked long hours all week Mum getting ready to go out with Dad for a sing song round the piano at theDuke of Devonshire and her love of Gene Kelly singing in the rain .God i miss em .

Reading the posts submitted over the years i find myself wondering what happens to these people when they stop posting no doubt some have passed away but what a tribute to this site that people take time out of there lives to pass on thier knowledge and experiences and listen to others the fact that this site is busier than ever means our children/grandchildren can have an insight into our lives from a whole range of different people.What do you think.
