Also Fleetwood Mac who were amazing and very lucky to see all the original members, before Buckingham left.

Not the originals Mrs B.  Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Peter Green, Danny Kirwan and Jeremy Spencer were the true originals.  The line up you are talking about didn't happen until mid 70's - a mere 47 years ago!!!!

    Thanks for chapter two Loppy.

But it's the first time I've ever had to scroll sideways to read it. Were you typing on a toilet roll sideways.

Still, managed to read it OK. Must say, I'm a wee bit envious as I would have loved to travel. Considered it when we first got married in '65, but when the kids came along that put the brakes on that. Because they were both disabled, we wouldn't have been allowed and if we were, I would have been bankrupt within a year !

By the time they both passed away, (1978 &1990) it was too late for us. I was diagnosed as type 2 diabetic mid 80s so that would have been another block. So, for the last 33 years we've been on our own down here in East Sussex.

Looking forward to chapter three LL. Take care and can I  be the first to wish you, Happy Easter !!

Your post, Beekay, seemed to get swallowed up in the effort to put Loppy's problems with posting right.  But it touched me.  I think when you get older you do get more reflective and feel you should have done things you didn't, but you have to remember that circumstances at the time and indeed one's own self-confidence were very different 40/50 years ago.  And East Sussex is a very nice address to have.  It was good to hear that you and your Mrs weathered your own particular storm; it's not easy in difficult circumstances.  Be proud of yourselves.  Wishing you both the very best.

  3.  I remember a song called The Golden Vanity

A ship I have got in the north country

And she goes by the name of the Golden Vanity

Oh, I fear she will be taken by the Spanish Galilee as she sails in the lowlands low

    The low lands, low

As she sails in the low lands low.

    Also The Wraggle Taggle Gypsies

Three gypsies stood at the castle gate

They sang so high, they sang so low

The lady sate in her chamber late

Her heart it melted away as snow

It was an exceptionally poignant tale about a lady on her honeymoon who was so taken by the gypsies singing she ran away from her new husband to join them and when he realises she's gone he says

Oh, saddle for me my milk white steed

And go and fetch my pony oh

For I must ride to seek my bride

Who's gone with the Wraggle Taggle Gypsies oh.

Bloody hell, you lot! - I can't remember what I had for dinner on Tuesday but I'm remembering words of songs

I sang about 60 years ago at Whitegate Junior School.

  4. Hmm, I thought that; but surely if you are treating Covid patients you are not treating anybody else so surely the Covid staff are a select bunch anyway.  Also, if that is the case why did they build the Nightingale's anyway?

  5. Thanks Loppy and DJ for your thoughtful words.  The group were called Orphan.

    Oh, Mr Lugs

  6. 360 Club, Bulwell, 1971.  Liked the look of him the minute I saw him, and what he did with that violin bass, cor.  Was he interested in me - nope. Great group though so me and my mate became their groupies - but only in the way of going to see them wherever they played.  Won the shy bassist over when he got to know me!  Married, moved to Cromford had 2 daughters. Left us much too young in 1999.

  7. Admin, sorry i'm 15 years late in replying but I've only just come across this thread.  I think the shop you are thinking of is Vicki Fashions.  I remember buying buying a kipper tie dress there in the late 60s.  It was orange and the tie was silky psychadelic - hey, it was trendy at the time!

  8. I've just found this topic so got to share this one with you - I know you'll all get it.  Nottingham people call Brussell Sprouts nobby greens, right (I think it's pretty unique). Well once our mam sent me off to BP Greengrocers to get a bag of them, "hey, aah Janet bring me a nob of baggy greens.  It still makes me smile.  I've told many people who then give me that "back to the ward, dear" look.  I guess if you're not from round 'ere it dunna make sense.

  9. Thank heavens there aren't any films of Victoria Centre's early days.  When I first went there it was chucking it down of rain outside so I had a brolly, having walked from the Lace Market where I had just started working - and in my defence indoor shopping was brand new - so there I was having a goz at all that was going on still with said brolly up - oh, how ridiculous I felt when the Taylor Woodrow workers pointed out that "it wasn't raining inside, love".  My favourite shop was a hippy boutique upstairs called I'll Leave It.

  10. Back in the 80s I was living in Cromford, Derbyshire.  If any of you know that part of the world you'll doubtless know the wonderful book shop there.  If you don't know it, they mainly sell second hand books.  Well I was working there (Thatcher's time so needed two jobs to help pay the 16% mortgage rate) and one day a customer came in and asked about antiquarian (rare) books.  "Oh, yes", says I airily pointing him in the direction of the books relating to fish and aquariums.....oops.
