I'm not aware of some of the above but at one time I'd have thought Drury Hill was one of the steepest before it was 'demolished'

Most reference books quote “Kilroy” as being a shipyard inspector in the U.SA. and after he’d inspected material he used to write “Kilroy Was Here”. The phrase came over to the U.K. during the Second World War when the U.S.A forces came here.

When you’re in the Old Market Square, look up at the architecture above Ladbrookes on Long Row and you will see the façade (which is grade II listed) of the 600 seat "Picture House" cinema that opened 1912 and closed in 1921. It never converted to sound.

Swearing
in General Chat about Nottingham
Posted
I think swearing is part of life these days and the majority of people swear at some point albeit not to the extent of an increasing number and mainly in private with friends and family. I’m not saying it is right to do so, particularly the ‘f’ or similar words, in general public but these days these ‘swear words’ are included in dictionaries, on television after the watershed and in the media generally. Those using these words in public either don’t realise they’re saying them or, do it on purpose to aggravate others. They don’t realise they are showing a lack of the English language, manners and consideration for others. Unfortunately, I don’t think the situation will improve and will actually increase.
