correct Cliff the post office was on the left at the very begining of station rd round the corner from the chemist there was some huge advertising boards, behind them was Carlton electro plating I think and they moved onto colwick industrial site.

further down there was a jetty that ran from station road onto burton road I think there there was the Kia Ora club I think.

  2. Oh dear,I think maybe it is a bodge job,and I never knew they could be made of asbestos. I reckon it could be half cast iron and half plastic, but without getting on a ladder for a better look can't be sure. Do you know anyone who does such repairs?

Yes me luv 15 years ago, being a roofer. there's a lot of lads wearing spurs these days so be careful. get three quotes.

  3. St. Augustines catholic Carlton hill 1945 Mr burns head teacher Miss Hayes, Miss Trivett Miss Harbison. Mr pooler caretaker who sometimes with his wife cooked school dinners. I didn't have them me mam couldn't afford it. I wasn't a catholic, it was common practice in those days to go to the nearest school. the teachers were very strict indeed.

  4. I remember going to what Mam called the 'Food Office' on Burton Road, just round from Dr Parks Corner for baby formula and orange juice and i think also Cod Liver Oil and Malt, she had a little book for that. I can't remember what a ration book looks like but i have a feeling she used them, Has anyone got a photograph of one to remind me. I am thinking back to around 1950ish, would they still be around and in use then.

picking up this thread carni. I was sent to the same food office, I would tell me mam they hadn't got no cod liver oil, horrible stuff but the orange juice was lovely for us kids in them days. Teeee heeee.
