  1. I used to sit with my granny in her front room helping with the lace work, there seemed to be a room full of the stuff.

Myself I used to do outdoor work machining all sorts of garments (when the kids were little)very poor pay but I needed the money and didn't want to leave the kids with anyone .Wonder if anyone still does this kind of work ?

  2. I think a lot of food and drink have changed since being taken over by other companies.Babycham used to be a nice drink, but now it's revolting....chocolate all tastes cheap and nasty....bread,well most of it gets binned or feeds the birds, why have they added so much sugar to it?...and garlic, why is it added to so many things?some of us don't like it... moan over,But I love potatoes and veg and meat

But only if I cook it ! My favourite drink Guinness is still wonderful.

  3. I remember a bloke they called 'little Harry' when I was growing up in Carlton.he was about 4ft tall I think. Well i was terrified of him,I don't know why. When he had had a few in the nags head he would swing round and put his fists up,never saw him hit anybody though. There was also a cross eyed woman in the next street to us ,I was frightened of her as well.(kids don't realise that people can't help being smaller than normal,or cross eyed)aren't kids awful sometimes.

  4. Kirks beer off on Carlton hill, just up from kirks buildings.I used to love walking into that shop, the creaky floorboards, the smell,it was lovely.Run by a mam and her son (can't remember seeing a mr Kirk)You could buy 'wine from the wood'if you took your own jug,I used to fetch it for my auntie,I wasn't old enough to drink.I think the sons name was John, lovely friendly bloke,I reckon all the girls fancied him,he looked a bit like frankie vaughan.

  5. Years ago I had a market stall selling fabric off cuts. There was a woman who used to come with a shopping trolley, shove it right up to the stall ,and like a bleddy magician she would slide the fabric into the trolley. She was caught out though as one day my friend on the next stall stood behind her, then as the woman was going to walk away my friend said 'was you going to pay for all that?'The woman calm as owt put it all back on the counter and walked off.But the best bit was ,some time after I saw her working in M&S.

  6. Does anyone know of any good old fashioned butchers shops?i don't mean butchers within supermarkets.

The only butchers I can think of is one in netherfield, and another in Southwell. When I lived in Carlton in the 70s,there were 2 butchers and a pork butcher(vickerstaffs)I used to like buying different cuts of meat which you can't seem to get now.

  7. In (little)Waitrose last week i was doing a bit of shopping ,the security man was walking round the store as usual..,when all of a sudden he and two policemen were leading a handcuffed lad out of the shop! good to see the security bloke is doing a good job.

Not so good in the 99p shop in broad marsh,it was a while ago that I saw two teenagers stuffing sweets in their hoodies .I told the person on the till but he just shrugged,I know it's only 99p,but it's still stealing.

  8. Saw a deliveroo chap on a bike last night going along woodborough road, well the item he was delivering must have been heavy,he was red in the face and wobbling from side to side, the package must have been about 2or 3 feet tall.
