  1. Has anyone else had this phone call?3times this past fortnight I've had the same one,it goes like this...

Caller....hello mrs .......,you live at.........your postcode is.....you had mortgage many years back......you are aged between 20-74....

Me,yes...yes...yes....yes until the last one when I lied and said no,they then put the phone down on me.Whats behind this call I wonder. How do they know my details?

  2. What pees me off is

(this is very common on woodborough rd)

As a bus pulls into a stop, you have no chance to overtake it as its always too close to bollards, but you only have to wait about 1minute.Then some idiot behind you overtakes on the wrong side of the road! Hooting as they go,are they all on something?

  3. Was apprenticed to a small family run garage at the bottom of Sneinton road (Claringburn and Codd) in the late 60's early 70's that used to have the boom type petrol/diesel pipes that swung over the footpath to reach the road side, upstairs to the garage apart from the office was a spares room that had all sorts of rare and wonderful bits in it such as old sized tyres (1910 dated), wooden motor car wheels, old fashioned carriage/car lamps with wicks and some very old ledger books full of info dating back to the early 1900's when the place sold and repaired motor cycles and cycles, wish I had kept some of that stuff

Plant fit 107874,Ok,I know we are supposed to be talking notts, but they have one of those petrol filling stations where the pipes swing over the footpath at wainfleet,on the way to Skegness ,first time I've seen one,I reckon it was still in use about 3years ago,
  4. Can anybody help? I'm with Virgin B/Band TV etc. When I turn the TV on it can take a minute or more before the picture will appear. It reminds me of the old black and white days when you had to wait for valves to warm up.

It's not a new set...a few years old now. Will it be the set or could it be the Virgin box?

Poohbear, mine is just the same,I just think its the way things are now.
  5. My late grandparents used to live at prospect place. Not sure if it could have been in the house that is now for sale, all I know is they lived in 'rooms',that's what they called it years ago,not apartments as they do now. They later moved to a 'new' house one of which were being built on farnborogh road clifton.

  6. crankypig. If you are still looking for a copy of The Third Man on Ebay, be sure not to buy one from somewhere in America. Apart from the fact that it will not play on UK DVDs, the film is different in places and it is shorter in length by eleven minutes. Thought I'd tell you.

Chulla,I have won one for ...wait for it...50p It's on VHS but I still have a video player so if I want I can make a copy onto a DVD,done this loads of times and it works fine.I never buy from America, got done years ago ,very dear postage on some headphones, never again.Cant wait for film to arrive.

  7. I used to go to this youth club with my friend,we were about 14 at the time,I think they had a jukebox? I can remember a lady who used to be 'on the door' to check who was going in.She used to talk to us girls about behaving ourselves and not to 'get up to mischief' with boys.I remember 2 older lads who used to hang about outside, showing off because they had a car.my friend and I were at Carlton girls school at the time.

  8. When I lived with me parents on Carlton hill we had a row of 4 toilets for our houses, they were a good way from the house,if it was dark it was very scarey going to the loo ,no lights, sometimes there would be a drunken bloke lying in the passage (he was from next door)you nearly fell over him sometimes.Later on we all had toilets put in our back gardens ,but still no lights,my dad put a parrafin heater in ours cos it was always freezing up.We had to have a peepot at night,it was too scary to go outside.
