  1. I was brought up in the 'Meadows' and I could be quite wrong but I think this building was something to do with the old railway.

For those that can recall, the old rail lines ran behind these buildings. The rail net work was quite extensive here with many siddings

and of course the old rail bridge. My Uncle was a train driver who lived in the 'railway' houses on Bathley Street (Glapton Road end )

Many truly happy memories of the old meadows including Trent Bridge School.

    Kind regards,

    Tony

  2. Foxy,

You have an excellent memory. I can recall Joseph K when he fell on the mountain. Had extensive suturing and when he discharged from the hospital covered in bangages. Can't remember Dave Hickling.

Do yoy recall that one of the teachers did some cine shots of us all and after the hols we were invited back to TB juniors to see the film ?

Mick if you read this -do you still have the photograph of the TB seniors trip to Germany I sent you-a lot of old boys on there.

    Kind regards

some where-we all went on a school trip tp Paris in 1961. Will try to find it.

Went by the old school some 2 months back. Still the same. Brought back happy memories

I'm sure you are right. I also remember most of the names and often wonder what happened to every one.

Apart from seeing Arthur Clarke once in blue moon and corresponding with Tony L

Alan Hall and yourself I have not been in touch with anyone else

I've sent quite a few photographs to Mick of the old school etc for him to put on.

    Take care

    Kind regards

  5. As far as I can remember Sante Fe opened in 1962.Originally it was open on a Sunday night following Evensong. The vicar Mr Whalley wanted to attract more young people to the evening service. I recall as a young man of 13 years the church being quite packed out with older teenagers. This met with some disaproval with the older congregation so it was aborted.

    I finished going around 1966.

    Kind regards

    Tony.

  6. Mick,

You are quite right. The club was up some old wooden steps. I only went there the once. I think it tried to compete with sante Fe but didn't last too long.

I'm sure it opened in 1964 and closed later that year.I woder how long Sante Fe lasted?

    Kind regards,

    Tony

  7. Many will recall Mr Williams. He had many problems at TB, particulary with the boys who were often quite disruptive in his classroom.

He left in late 1963 to become music teacher in a North Notts girls school.

Piggy Roberts took over when he left and would play ad hoc for the morning assembly. On fridays we would have a Mr ( Bill ) Vasey. Bill lived at Mapperley and would be seen around the town always on a cycle. A tall eccentric chap.Bill once told me that he always liked to have a pee in the boys toilets instead of the staff ones. He befriended a lad called Mick Phelps-the only cockney we had in the school.

Pop Williams would take us for music in his classroom which was near to the teachers staffroom and near to the secretarys office a Mrs Bloor I think.

Sometimes although unable to think why Pop would take us for lessons in the Meadows Boys Club. Pop lived quite near to Mapperley hospital where I was working at the time. My old friend Don Theakstone thought we should have some teenage culture and decided that we should see Pop for music lessons at his house

Don survived aboot one lesson. I had six or so and then discontinued as Pop became 'rather friendly' -- enough said !

A nice gentleman though and many fond memories of him and all the teachers.

I recall John Simons ( art ) lived at East leake. His classroom was over the road in the new building

    Kind regards

    Tony

  8. The only PT teacher I can remember up until late 1964 was Mr Thorpe.

    kind regards

    Tony

ps so glad my old friend Tony Lander has joined. I mailed him the address to the USA

Mick when do you think you might be able to progress the TB school picture site? I do think this will be VERY popular and invite many pictures and narratives.

  9. Mick & Cazza,

Thank you for the replies. Firstly Mick. I'm not in any way computerate literate.

I can send the photographs etc to whatever you like. But still dont understand how to load them on your site.

    Carole,

    I don't have any pics of 1970.

I was at Tb from 1959 to 1964 inclusive but still have some photographs a few years either end.I have a couple of old speech day programmes which I will also put on the site.

I am really surprised that more people do not have photographs.

I am in touch albeit ad hoc with the brothers of my old school friend Arthur Clarke.

Arthur had two brothers that went to Tb.Mick who sadly died in 1963 and Rob who probably left about 1969. I have seen pics from that era. Will try and find out.

Where do you actually live?. Was out there myself 2 years ago. I had two uncles in Sydney. One was an old friend of Joe Currah. Do you remember him ?. French and RI. Mr Currah lived at Retford and was a lay preacher. My Uncle used to have a book stall on the old Central market

    Kind regards
