I wasn't sure what forum to post this in but it seems Graham Knight, former Radio Trent DJ has passed away.

As well as being a DJ, Graham also ran the General Store in Sherwood which was a brilliant little place specialising in coffee and drinking chocolate.

He was a true gent.

Very sad.

Didn't know that he ran a shop.

Was it that one thats sells cheese and ham, pretty old fashioned?

No, it was purely tea, coffee amd chocolate, and peripheral stuff.

We were colleagues, and friends, and I went to his 60th a few months back.

I remember when I had first started on Trent, he and Chris Ashley invited me to do a walk for charity from Langley Mill to Market Square in Nottingham, but it turned into a 13 mile run, as Chris didnt want to miss the pub, as the opening hours back then were different.

I couldnt walk for about 3 days.

Im actually puzzled about what is said about the shop in the article, as the original one on Mansfield Rd closed down last year, I went to its last day, and he told me he was going to supply tea and coffee from premises (not a shop) around the corner.

God bless you Graham, no pain where you are now.

RIP.

Craig, I think they used some premises on Marshall Street, I do remember seeing him come out of one of the old shops on there. Not sure if there was any signage, perhaps it was more for people he supplied?

I remember him being on an episode of "Game for a laugh" doing the dustbin man routine.

It's a bit hard to describe ,better viewed, but it entailed him using the top half of a tailors manikin dummy with a dustbin on it's back with his head and shoulders coming out of the dustbin. The trick to it being it was his legs that the dummy was attached to. Very visual but also very funny!!

Another time he was running around the market square holding a Cornflake packet container (You''ll see why I called it that in a second), Any way as he's running he's shouting "One nine a copy , good buddy, bring it back" etc etc etc, Henry Kelly asks "Whats that" ??

Graham Knight replies "C.B."

"Oh " inquires Kelly "Citizens Band Radio??"

" Nah" replies Knight "Cardboard Box"

Oh how we laughed , mind you it was the early 80's!!!!
