Definitely not, Lizzie!

You're slacking, Catfan! We've been married for 27 years and I've had at least one bunch of flowers every week

Sounds lovely, Nonna. Will try it

Me too - cob, though, not roll!

Some info is given by relatives, as Jill mentioned, or if service records have survived for those particular men, perhaps they extract information from those. Also perhaps newspaper articles and census records or from people who have researched various war memorials, and if Sherwood Foresters, from the Regimental Archives

The site doesn't have much info for some men, Jill, probably because they've mainly taken details from the Commonwealth War Graves website. In the case of my Great Uncle (another Medders lad) CWGC doesn't give any detail on next of kin etc

You can download the War Diary for 1 Battalion KOYLI for the appropriate period here. It will give a day by day account of what they were involved in and where and will cost £3.50 http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C7353512

The John Minter Hadlow who died in 1979 lived in Sawbridgeworth, Herts. He left a Will - might be worth getting a copy, with a view to contacting the beneficiaries, to find out more about him.

And I thought dinosaurs were extinct....

So sorry to hear of your problem, Margie. Let's hope for an early appointment to get things sorted and try to stay optimistic

Sorry to hear that

I think when you go the top end restaurants, like Sat Bains, you're presented with a "set' menu that might not be your choice, if you had the option to choose. I'd like to go there, but that puts me off. Have been to some fantastic restaurants, mainly in Europe, where, although the prices are higher than average (but nowhere near 2 or 3 Michelin Star prices), it's well worth the extra for the quality of food and the experience

Those second class citizens, then?

Yes, I went to have a look about 5 years ago when I visited Nottm. Not the prettiest! But then neither was it when my Dad lived there. His family was very poor

My dad grew up in Elson Terrace, off Elson Street in the 20's. I have a vague recollection of him taking me to see the demolition, some time in the 60's, I think

Same here, Tim. I worked at Huntingdon Street in the school Christmas holidays, probably 1973-75. Loved it

All the best, Chulla - keep that attitude and I'm sure you'll be fine

Thanks everyone!

Planning to visit my brother at the weekend and take him out for lunch. Looking for a good quality pub lunch. No burgers and chips/Wetherspoons but a bit more upmarket. Any suggestions? Thanks

I'd been in touch with R.E.A.D. in the past by pm and sent him a message a few days ago about the comments people have made

I haven't thought about that for YEARS, but for us it was "Made yer look for monkey nuts, made yer pull yer knickers up" or 'Made yer look, made yer stare, made yer lose yer underwear"
