The only person I've found of that name was born in Leicester around the right time and married in Leicester after the year you've given. How do you know she was living in Nottm at the time you've mentioned?
-
But you haven't answered the questions!
-
Was she born in Leicester?
-
Have you found him on the census? Do you know when he was born/married died?

My Dad joined up in Jan 1942, aged 19. He'd married my Mum in Dec 1941. A "cushy" war, compared to some, he was RAF Ground Crew, a Wireless Operator, serving mainly in the UK, but also in France in 1944. He had a terribly impoverished childhood - his Dad was a heavy drinker who didn't provide enough food for his kids - they were always hungry. My Dad's main aim after the war was to make sure his children didn't suffer the same fate. A very bright man, although with basic education, he was limited by his background, but not the typical strict and old fashioned husband or Dad of his time. Great fun and died far too young, aged 61 in 1983

My Mum always went to Kerrys stall on the market

Have you found William on a census? -if found 1851 or later, it should give his place of birth and age (well, approx age - you can't always rely on it) Do you know when he died?

Thank you Michael!!

Albert Avenue was apparently in New Nuthall, if that helps pinpoint the right sort of area

Pleased to hear that he's still around. He was my form teacher for a year and I was also in a couple of his English classes - a lovely man

Sorry to say, we were disappointed with Georgios......

If any of them were married or had children during WW1, certs might give regiments and/or numbers
-
Yes, a lot are damaged, but you're lucky to find even a damaged record!
-
LOTS of WW1 Service records were destroyed in WW2 so it's very possible that his records haven't survived, assuming he served. Should be medal records for him, though, provided that he served overseas. Difficult, though, to establish which is the right man as Medal cards don't have personal info, apart from a very small number which have addresses
RHA and RGA aren't the same, but both are elements of Royal Artillery. Medal Rolls, which are on Ancestry, give Battalions or Units, (but not usually for RA) which would enable you to find out, via War Diaries, what they were involved in

I'd forgotten about ditched for dirty too - my Mum used to say it. Also chatty for dirty, and also used if someone was scratching themselves - perhaps because they had nits or fleas "Are you chatty?"

Thanks Dave and Ian

My brother has recently moved to Sneinton. Going up to see him on Saturday from dahn Lundon. Can anyone recommend a good fish and chip shop locally, to get a takeaway? Good mushy peas a priority as don't get to eat them very often down here!

Cakey meant gormless for me

Sucky to me means overly sentimental - such as a song or a film

I went to the Peach Tree fairly regularly in the 70's. At the end of the night, the landlord used to shout out "your money's in the till, now p*** off!"
I was a mild drinker too, in those days...

Hope all goes well, Chulla. Sounds as though the doctors are being very thorough

The pension system is changing.
People need to get a pension forecast to see what you're going to be entitled to under the new system - lots of things have changed. Particularly for women who have seen a huge increase in State pension age with little notice. Please sign this, today or early tomorrow, - time is running out for the campaign- https://petition.par...etitions/110776
