  1. It is so sad when a life ends and especially when the person is so young,We had the pleasure of seeing the Nolans in caberet a few years ago,and we were a bit unsure that they would be to our liking,we couldn't have been more wrong,They were fantastic,The show was so energetic, the singing was spot on,and the girls were cheeky and according to my hubby very sexy,So not only have we lost a lovely young lady but a great talent as well.So Sad.

  3. I had a look on Ancestry .com and from 1912 you will see the mothers maiden name also shown on the Births index, until then you will only see the fathers name,i think it would be on the birth certificate though.Pixie it is always wise to check any info like this as it is only things i have noticed when i have been researching my family tree, but it gives you some thing to look for.Happy Hunting.

  4. Hi Pixie

I have traced a lot of my ancestors on that site, and as far as know you have to order the birth certificates,You just get on Births Deaths Marriages, find the person you are looking for and you will get the option to order one,i have never been able to just view one unless someone else researching that person has photographed their copy and put it in their public tree.i am no expert, i just dabble and i am only sharing my experiences.Good Luck.

  5. MELTONSTILTON

Great to hear you and you're wife had a good trip, where ever we go we always share the driving and the beauty of a coach trip is that you can both sight see together without having to worry about who is driving taking their eyes of the road.We go on a coach trip at the end of Jan or Feb with the over 60s every year for usually 4/5 nights some where in Gt Britain and love it,very cold tho,Hope you both enjoy you're Switzerland trip and enjoy many more in the future.

  6. ,That is such a frightening thing to happen,I have read about this kind of thing in the news,i hope you're friend made a full recovery,

Some of the best nights in bier kellers that we have had ,were at Butlins Skegness, with Baron Wolfgangs Baverian Oompah Band,in the 1980s,looking back at photo,s,i am surprised we didn't all have more injuries,i remember one night when we were all swaying and standing up and sitting back down,as we sat down the bench had tipped over and we all ended up on the floor,i had an injury to my elbow that lasted about 10years,It did seem like fun at the time,Ah well you live and learn. LoL

  7. I just saw the name above in another thread, and it brought back memories from either 70/80s of some raucous nights out at Blue Anchor, Englemells and also at a dance at the fire station Carlton,We went to the Beer Keller in Notts a few times but cant remember if they were there as well,Some great nights out when the oompah bands were all the rage, danced on many tables and fallen off a few as well.Remember this.................................EIN PROSIT

  8. Hi Katyjay,

I always open the door by the method you say,it is the nice to know others do this, and on escalators and staircases i rest my wrist hand turned upwards,so as not to touch the rail, but ready to grab hold if i slip.I know there are many places that we can't help touching surfaces but, public toilets are the obvious ones to be aware of.

  9. I didn't like it either, but i love Yorkshire Pudding,When i was a teenager i worked on Alfred St North and my Grandma lived on Vicarage St,at lunchtime she cooked a meal,I would have a starter of 5 tall light Y-puds and gravy and not much dinner after,i didn't care,i'd had the best part.

  10. Hi Plantfit

On a Sunday (the only day we had pud) mam made a Yorkshire pud in a big tin,it was heavier than the kind you have on you'r dinner,we would cut it off in squares and have the blackberry vinegar poured on,thanks for the reminder,i did wonder if it was just our family who did that,we did use it medicinally as well.

  11. Steven, I had to think about that one for the penny to drop, (Hey where did that saying originate)

Beefsteak,My mother in law used to make all her own wine, you name it she made it,Her Parsnip and Also Damson were good stuff,I learned the hard way how potent it was.

  12. I have just been reading Katyjay's recipe for Ginger Beer,i remember Dad feeding his lovingly, when we were all at home, and the end result was delicious,

He used to make something else that i am sure he called Blackberry Vinegar,I can't even remember if we liked it,Would it have been medicinal, Has anyone any recollection of this as it seems most of us have similar memories on what our parents fed us on!
