  1. Hello to all. I'm hoping that someone can name the Catholic cemetaries closeset St. Barnabas Cathedral. Since g grandfathers have been baptised/marriage at St. Barnabas it would only make sense that a few are buried in the area. Thank you Shari
  2. Thank you so much. Looking at this picture while chasing down the lives of my great grandparents makes me feel that much closer.
  3. Hello to All, A while back a member posted a picture of houses located at Smiths Yard. I can no longer find this photo to print for my Mom. Can ya be a sweetie re-post the picture. Thanks Shari nj
  4. Sure Mick I've seen "Little House", just never heard it called a thunderbox, they were referred to as an out house over here. Thunderbox is actually very funny.

  6. Wow thank you all. Dang even a picture. Mick2me thank you also for the brit geneology site. It seems as though the old family spent at least 30 years in Nottingham, doing more research hope to find out more. The town that they settled down in the US has a church that looks very very similar to St. Barnabas. Interesting/fun stuff. Chasing down information was what brought me to this site. btw my family's surname is Tarpy.
  7. Hello Nottingham, just received a copy of my gggrandfather's 1853 marriage certificate from St. Barnabas. My question is has anyone heard of the section called Smiths Yard, that's if it even was a section for all I know my ancestors could have been living in the yard of a family called the Smiths . Would love to hear anyone's response.
  8. It's been raining all week in south jersey. I planned to mow the grass or should I say the weeds but of course rain. I painted a bedroom instead. We've been living in this house for 2 years now and I've been meaning to paint that room since our move in. The lady before us had a 7 year old son so I guess she felt the room needed be blue, uggg. I like blue but this was the most depressing shade of blue, everytime I went into that bedroom I felt like opening a vein. Right now I'm having me two fingers of rum and my everlovin is in a chair vibrating the walls with his snoring. Yep that's us t
  9. Ok are you kidding me or is this the lingo really heard around town today?? I'm pissing trying to figure this out, too funny. Something tells me I'd fit right in. Believe it or not it sounds a bit like South Philly and it goes like this...I'm eddinyup to nightnfizwar street jus lookin for disndat nutinspesshal interpretation: I'm heading up to 9th and Fitzwater just looking for this and that nothing special.
  10. In my old neighborhood there was a tap room that had a gully at the base of the bar with running water so the men could spit. It has been only in the last 25 years or so that the water was turned off and spitting was prohibited. I think it took so long as to keep the women out of the bar and in the "ladies area" which was another room entirely.
  11. At one time old men did that often, actually I haven't seen that in a very long time thankfully. eeewww
  12. Jesus would ya look at those bands, I'm having a flashback. If I didn't see them live I certainly watched them perform on "The Ed Sullivan Show". Ed Sullivan was where is first saw the Stones (with Brian Jones) my girlfriend and I genuflected and blessed ourselves when the band came on ooooo my dad was so pissed, hated the whole notion of this rocknroll meantime he was sporting a pair of blue suede shoes. lol
  13. How in the heck did you wind up in Missouri, "The Show Me State" ?? whatever that means anyway
  14. Oh heck no one's offended me, I have a thick hide anyway, it's just that I haven't had much computer time since my everlovin seems to be always involved with an online poker game, grrrrr. The nj is shari is New Jersey. I'm 10 minutes from Philadelphia (Philly) and about 1 hour from Atlantic City. I use to belong to a cat chat forum but got tired of that due to all of the censoring, I think it was run by some born again christians, not that I have a problem with christians....ah forget it I don't want to get into trouble my first time out. I do have three cats, a Ragdoll named Big Tom, J
