Was it the old Playhouse, before the new one was built near the cathedral? I went to the playhouse on a school outing to see Macbeth. Bored me to death.

Can't find any reference to Justin Hines and the Dominoes in my hit singles book, but I found Max Romeo's song. It was called Wet Dream.

I'd forgotten about hopscotch. We all played that, it was 10 squares. 1 on the bottom, then 2 & 3 above, then 4 etc finishing with number 10 on the top.

At age 15 I went to work for Raleigh in the offices. I was in the training school for 3 months, and my wages were 2 pounds 18 shillings and 10 pence a week for that duration. To earn a bit extra we were told we could come in at 8am, to the postal dept, and do an hour's overtime till our usual 9am start. We opened mail and sorted it by department. The princely sum for doing this, a shilling an hour. But it meant an extra 5 bob in my wages, which went a long way in those days. Laughable now though.

Since December, we've had snow at least once a week. Not much though, nothing like it used to be. These past few days have been 60F, way above normal, but snow is in the forecast again soon. At least we haven't got the arctic weather of the northeast and midwest.

In the late 60's or early 70's there were a couple of bars I remember. One was an Aztec bar, the other a Swisskit. The latter had some daredevil doing all sorts of stunts, and at the end he'd say 'I'll risk it, for a Swisskit' I did like the Aztec bar, but it disappeared, like a lot of others.

All those words, Caz, were in our house too. Also my mum would call your head, your juff, like shift your juff. It was like living in another country, in our house!

Yes, pj, Horlicks tablets were in a small tube. I couldn't stand Horlicks as a kid, but I'd love to get me hands on a tube of them now. I was at school with a girl, in the infants, who always had Horlicks tablets with her. [where are you, Iris Brown?]

Yep, bobbo's and dudoo's were in my vocabulary too, have no idea where either came from. Also, when I went for number 2's, I was having a 'bob', or bobbies [hope nobody's eating!] I'm sure there's a ton of Nottingham words we've forgotten about.

I remember the bogs. We'd walk down to the bottom of Bells Lane and catch a number 7 to Bulwell Market and go paddling. The Leen was very shallow and crystal clear [in those days anyway, don't know about now] I'd also paddle in the Leen at Billy Bacon's in Basford. Basford Wakes came there after Goose Fair had finished.

I remember all of those, Dodie. The satin cushions I nearly choked on one night in bed! For some reason, the cherry lips remind me of the toy sweetshop I got one Christmas. Jap Desserts were cubes, in pink yellow and brown if I remember rightly. I love pontefract cakes, my ma in law still sends me those. Was Palm Toffee the one that came in trays with a hammer to bash it to pieces? Who remembers Smith's crisps with the blue packet of salt in each bag?

Hi pj, I can't remember either of those, the only coconut sweets I remember were coconut mushrooms. Do you remember Horlicks tablets, came in a roll, and Victory V in the winter.

Gobstoppers. They were enormous. Lucky Numbers were a caramel with a pink/green/yellow number in the centre.
