  2. However I will tell you about the greatest event I ever witnessed. In 1958/9 at the height of the cold war I saw on several occasions both squadrons of Vulcan`s scramble one after the other (617 first.) To see one vulcan take off is awe inspiring but to see the whole 2 squadrons take off IN PAIRS was the most inspiring event I had witnessed of these aircraft. The noise was thunderous. You do not realise how momentous these events are,at the time.

  3. Hello Joy and congrats on a wonderful day yesterday. Now can I ask you(as we were neighbours (up until 11 anyway) if you new Johnny Hardy, Pete Coffee, Kenny Hemsley, the Grewcock brothers, and Harry Cook at the Hop Bloom? Whose class were you in at BBH. ? Kenny is trying to find Ann Cropper, remember her? Best wishes Stan H.

  4. With reference to the above it brings back memories of a wonderful English gentleman who I knew quite well. Air Vice Marshal Eric Stephenson.

During World War II, his pursuit of all three almost came to an abrupt end twice, depending first on the lucky flip of a coin and, later on, through surviving the experience of being shot down over Germany in a Lancaster bomber. His return from captivity at the end of the war allowed him to pick up where he left off with fiancée Freda, and saw him become a country doctor in Norfolk.

In 1955 he also resumed wearing Air Force blue, only this time in Australia.

Eric was a navigator who survived the war after jumping out of his Lancaster.

Reminds me of the almost 50 % mortality rate in Bomber Command aircrew.

When you look at Britain today you wonder why they did it.

  5. Again entirely Mick`s decision . Of course you are allowed an opinion but you are bound by his rules on his forum. I do not like the decision to exclude my very middle ground political opinions on here, but that is the rule. I suppose you are aware of the difference between democracy and benevolent dictatorship?

  6. Mr. or is it MS? Brenton,The lady?gentleman doth protest too much, has been used as a figure of speech, in various phrasings, to indicate that a person's overly frequent or vehement attempts to convince others of something have ironically helped to convince others that the opposite is true, by making the person look insincere and defensive. He/she certainly PRESUMES too much. You don`t seem to be aware that this forum is entirely owned and paid for by Mick2Me. It is entirely up to him to decide to do with it as he please.

If people want to quote and are prepared to donate to make that possible I don;lt understand why that option isn't on the table.

Quite simple DJ Brenton it is entirely in Mick's domain.

  7. #33 I for one think an extra $250 a year on top of Mick`s already very generous payments is something that he should not have to add. All very well talking about the extra cost until one tries to collect. I think it should be VERY WELL DONE MICK.

  8. as far as i know ...no-one has played with the totals....to be honest I dont even know if it's possible.......i was just pickin' on you. lol

This seems an appropriate moment to `quote'(can`t remember doing that before). therefore.

If one has commenced 371 topics how is it possible to have a hundred or so entries? Where did my 4000 or so go?

Approaching almost 10 years with you mob ,can anyone explain if Fynger can`t?

  9. Terry Hennessey (/) I think after a bit of research. He lives( ?still alive?) near my daughter in Melbourne. (Aus) The other guy was Brian Bates. when we were students we worked building the new road near Wollaton Vale lifting huge kerb stones off the truck and into place. Want to see my hernias?

  10. My old man was a County supporter,so only saw Forest twice, and the 2nd time was for free(best seats in the house!). On 1st occasion I attended with a mad keen Manchester United fan in about 1958/59 ...all the way from a nuclear bomb site near Scampton. The second was when a Forest player surname began with an H I think damaged his hand which I fixed up ,so he gave me 2 tickets to see him play (oh wow !!)a t least my girlfriend was impressed.(1969)

Never understood why County did not do better. Had a mate named Bates in the 60`s anyone know what happened to him?

  11. Gas is our biggest cost! We have the same company for gas and power. A few years ago we invested in a solar system for hot water. We invested in solar panels also for power. The price of the panels have come down markedly in recent years. Result the power company pay us and this more than covers the gas bill.

Ask Dave to organise more sunshine in UK.

  12. Firstly, Australia will have another referendum before Charles becomes king. It was only clever wording that avoided abolition of the monarchy last time. Charles is greatly disliked over here.

Charles will be head of the Church of England as king. That woman Camilla was married before, so the situation is similar to Edward, and with a strong prime minister ,Charles could be advised to abdicate in favour of his son.

Of more interest would have been the situation if William died before Charles.
