  1. View from the North Signal box http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7304/11783695973_969303d2e0_o.jpg
  2. The three photos I linked to above are all taken at Victoria and show B12 loco's. 61538 is of particular interest as it is on route from Grantham to Derby in 1951. Here is another
  3. I have seen 3 images on Flickr Brian http://www.flickr.com/photos/davidwf2009/8754836770/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/davidwf2009/8901432263/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/davidwf2009/8577412525/
  4. It's ok Michael, I think it will fit easily on my drive
  5. Nobody has mentioned the B12 at Victoria, I have seen several images of them at the station, I guess they weren't regular visitors then? That's a shame because I have one on order. https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/1400500_682383701792162_1844501500_o.jpg
  6. A short video of a train ariving at Victoria in TS2014 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-heqg8f_UGI
  7. It would be good to have some authentic sounding station announcements echoing in the background. Would arriving trains be indicated with a bell besides a voice announcement? My memories of the somewhat smaller Langley Mill station was a bell ringing in the ticket office just prior to the train arriving, maybe from the signal box.? We do know a professional sound producer for the simulator who owes both myself and Chris a few favours The "public lavatory/digeridoo echoing burbly noises" mentioned for the Hydraulic house should be easy for him.
  8. The Hydraulic power house is done now and sent on to Chris for adding to the Vic, A bit off topic but does this Nottinghamshire County Council Ambulance bring back any memories for anyone? I can remember quite an assortment of vehicles parked up on the steep streets around the General Hospital. Regards Brian
  9. No, don't pipe down Stephen, that's why we are here, to listen to all these facts and memories from people who were there, keep them coming please We will try our best to promote discussion by occasionally placing the wrong locos on the route or putting buildings in the wrong place.
  10. That is true, I use to be able to run it fairly well on my laptop in the early days, but 3 or 4 upgrades to the simulator means that isn't possible any more. It was very frustrating until I built a fairly powerful desktop PC last year.
  11. WD and 9F are available but I don't have them yet, it's quite an expensive hobby to be able to have everything
  12. I think you are right, having had a look through all the images I have access to they do all seem to be 2P's. We do have a Fowler 2P model available too, as well as B1 and Robinson 04. There is also a N2, did I see an image of one of those at Victoria? A B12 is being made and there is a promise of other LNER locos in the future.
  13. I have been to that site during my searches but there are some photos on that link that I haven't seen before. Thanks Richard
  14. Its a LMS Compound 4P a new loco for the simulator out just the other day. I'm sure I have seen one pictured at Victoria
  15. I think they could be passengers of a railtour helping to turn their own trains loco
  16. There are no pigeons in the simulator, but you can have crows instead This image answers the question of turntable power source, at least in later years. http://www.flickr.com/photos/bigkris/6022559874/sizes/l/in/set-72157604574559562/ Great work on the canopy Chris. The North signal box has had the glaziers in to do some work. It still hasn't arrived at Nottingham though and seems to be in LMS territory. I have three men inside, how many would be needed to work this box?
  17. Thanks for those details Merthyr Imp, we had some dimensions for the platforms and roof spans and found some variations on those too between sources. We decided to use this plan as the main resource for the layout. http://www.greatcentraltoday.com/images/HiRes%20Fowler%20Nott%201.jpg
  18. The internal buildings used different materials, they were buff coloured glazed bricks, I assume similar to what you see on the corridor walls of older hospital buildings. The exposed outer ends of the buildings would have been like the clock tower though I think. That's my next job by the way, the clock tower and booking hall etc. I have read that the tower is 100ft high, so without any other dimensions I will have to base everything on that. The clock may not be working though, I will have to look into that.
  19. There is a Youtube video showing a GWR Hall that has overshot the turntable with the rear tender wheels coming off the back. It is pulled back on by another engine and then the turntable appears to be aligned to the exit track by manual means. This doesn't mean it wasn't once operated hydraulically in the early days of course, things change over time. The turntables in TS2014 work as if by magic, you just press the G key on your keyboard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dz3pyEKkEY I think my friend has that book on Friargate Bilbraborn, it is pretty hard to get hold of these days I believ
  20. Nottingham Victoria didn't have any overhead power lines for the tracks, I am just making some of the iconic buildings of Victoria as 3D models, I don't actually have access to the route at this moment, it is being developed on another computer. The North and South signal box models are shown at Sheffield just for illustration purposes. Sorry for the confusion. I will be more careful with backgrounds in future. Thanks for your thoughts on the hydraulic power house Merthyr Imp, that is a possibility, it would be interesting to know more about the buildings I'm working on. This is an extr
  21. As I said, "These models are not in place on the route yet just placed for screenshots" I have used another route, namely Woodhead, near to Sheffield Victoria as a backdrop. The point of the above post was just to show Victoria stations North and South signal box models I had made. Thanks for the comment Limey, I'm pleased you liked them.
  22. We are planning to build a digital version of Victoria station for the railway simulator TS2013. In fact the plan is to build the route from Victoria to Derby Friargate. This will of course take some time but that is half the fun. Some inaccuracy may be inevitable due to lack of resources, limitations within the simulator and lack of skill on our part. I hope that even if you have no interest in computer simulation you may still be interested in seeing the progress of this project. Progress will be slow most of the time. We are starting at Victoria, the idea is that everything else will se
  23. The Flickr Sets I linked to over the page I believe have downloading disabled. If you have the time, most of the interesting black and white images were posted previously at a larger resolution on the RMWeb forum with the ability to download them. They are spread out over 39 pages of the thread though. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/69274-dave-f-more-photos-added-21-june-from-1947-to-1955ish/
  24. Hi, I have found this site very usefull of late. Together with another guy we are trying to recreate the Nottingham Victoria to Derby Friargate railway line in a computer simulator Railworks TS2013, and you guys have provided a wealth of information that we have found very usefull. I have found images on other sites too and was wondering if you were aware of this chaps Flickr sets. He has recently digitised his fathers photo collection from old photos, no negatives exist, so some are poor images but worth it for the subject material alone. http://www.flickr.com/photos/davidwf2009/sets/ Ther
