Two of my "babies" from the 70's - 541 was the first to be converted to fully automatic - they are both over pits and I remember, it was a bit tight reversing them on when there was cars parked out front.

I remember buying "Wish You Were Here" on my way home from the solicitor's - I'd just signed my first mortgage papers at the tender age of 21 !! - what a great day that was.

I'm not football fan at all, but I made an effort to watch England play - I thought I was watching auditions for RADA - now I know why I don't rate football as a sport !!

Thats john hollands Roger..a relation of mine.
I know Albert Holland to speak to, and a few other members of the family when I'm on the grounds, usually at pull-on or build up. - I'm a funfair enthusiast - always have been since my first memorable visit to Goose Fair in 1958 !!

Me too in the mid 80's and 90's - I used to scrap a Jaguar almost every week - a bare shell filled with as much rubbish as we could find and get between £80 - £100 a time !

The sequence of pictures Roger...seem to be mainly 1977.
Does that tie in with anything?
If that's right , it will just be old age and poverty which is causing my memory loss !!

I think that would be when the council decided to close Bilborough Depot, the only purpose built bus depot in the city, all others being old tram sheds except Central Market depot which was .....................an old indoor market ! Year would have been late '70s early '80s. Sadly this brought on the desire by Nottm City council to close Bulwell & Sherwood depots too.
Central Market depot was only temporary anyway.
I left in 1980 and as I recall, I was still servicing Bulwell ,Central Market, and of course, Trent Bridge. - occasionally, I had to go to Sherwood and Bilboro' if Norman was off at Sherwood.

Yours truly with a Norton. I always identified with the rockers rather than the scooter (pansy wagon) crowd but in truth was never really part of it.
Always a Brit bike fan until someone let me ride a Yamaha 750 triple, after that it's a whole different story.
Looks like a Norton Jubilee 250cc ?
I had one stuck in the back of the garage - every now and again I would dig it out, spend 10 minutes kicking it over, but it never fired up once !! - swapped it for a Panther 600cc combo.

Roger, yes they were. My Dad was on this rota when it went OMO in 1971, at the time the rota also covered the 11, 12, 14, 21 and 24 routes to West Bridgford, the "Cinderella" 45 route and the very boring 26 route between Elmhurst Avenue, Carlton and Godfrey Road, Netherfield. The rotas were split when Trent Bridge re-opened as an operational depot in 1973, with the West Bridgford routes transferring back there. Dad transferred to Trent Bridge at this time.
Coincidentally , my Dad was a driver on this rota in the late 50's early 60's - I often used to ride with him for an entire shift. (for free of course)

Shops on Goldsmith St. Anyone out there who remembers Jack Bretnalls, the music shop. Bought my first jumbo guitar from there. Cost me nearly a month's wages in 1971!!
They moved to the top of Alfreton Road - not a patch on the old shop on Goldsmith Street

The only reason I remember 541 being the first was because when it became operational , we had nothing but trouble with the throttle release actuator - I was constantly changing and adjusting it, and I remember thinking , this system will never take off - guess I was wrong - I think the whole fleet was converted.
