  1. Maybe it serves them rright, eh?! If only we could have a policed enforcement of dumping rules. On a nmumber of occasions I have reported fly-tipping but it's always the same "Sorry pal, not interested - short of resources and even if we went to the trouble of catching them, the courts would not consider it a serious crime."

  2. So, Amy is a teacher who has the option of using the "Naughty step". In my day the teacher's first option was to make you stand in the corner, second was to send you outside to the corridor (And the Gods help you if you wee seen by the head); next option was the big stick or strap and finally send you to the head for punishment.  How things change in so few years. No, wait.....it isn't a few years is it, it's sixty years ago. Gordon Bennet! Where did the time go?

  3. I had been looking at my dead friend's fb page when it struck me that he had no idea it was winter for him. On Christmas Day he announced "The best Christmas ever!" and on Boxing Day he had a heart attack and died.  As you say, Jonab, its real.

  4. Well, Mrs Compo comes back today. I've had a wonderful week of peace and quiet on my own - it's been great but whatever you do don't tell her!  Over the course of the week I have managed to trim all the hedges, all the grass, prune a big scyamore tree, sow poppies iin the local hedgerows, collect Parasol mushrooms in the local woods, remove part of a knuckle witih the petrol powered hedge cutter and almost break my shin whilst stamping on the stepladder to make it secure in the ground (I missed and shinned it into the ground). I've enjoyed a few pints in 'Spoons, organized a new sim  for my phone, vacuumed and done the washing and shopping.  I have also made an internal reducer for my home-made Pullman style bread tin, Got stuck on the sit-on mower by reversing into a fence and jamming my steel toecapped welly between fence and mower pedal and repaired the fuel lines on the peetrol hedge cutter. All-in-all a pleasant week.

  5. These days brewers seem to be making all kinds of arty-farty real ales, so it made a nice change to go into 'Spoons the other day and find a proper old fashioned bitted on the hand pump.  The barmaid (Can I say that these days?) said that it was the most popular of the beers on offer at the moment.  I would love to see a return to proper beers such as Shippos and Home bitter.  At a wedding reception in Manchester some years ago we were next door to a pub that sold hand-pulled Holt's bitter, a cheap and cheerful old fashioned bitter with no firills or added cherries, lemons or any other such stuff; so I kept disappearing off next door whenever I needed a top-up pint :)

My latest brew is one of my own recipes and contains nowt but locally grown (malted) barley and home-grown hops. It is an off-sweetish bitter, reddish brown in colour.

  6. Fly raised the issue of energy drinks cans strewn around. I have raised this issue with the local press. There is a driver who throws his/her Red Bull cans out of the car on a regular basis. I cycle around a single track road circuit of four miles each day (the roads form a square) and on Friday, Saturday and Sunday I can guarantee at least one new RedBull can along one of the two parallel roads leading north on my circuit. some days it is multiple cans and also empty fag packets too. One saturday morning there were over a doen empty cans and several fag packets dumped in a 'passing place', so I took a photo and sent it to the local paper. They published teh image bu tit made no difference to the, as they are called "Dumb Dumper", who carried on as usual. Every household here in Caithness has a blue recycle bin that is emptied every two weeks; soo why can't the stupid bastard simply drop the cans in the bin instead of chucking them out into the countryside?! This same person probably complains bitterly when the council put up the tax to cover extra cleaning caused by such scumbag dumb dumpers too.

  7. I read this and thought how good it is. Give it a try and see what you think:

    AND THEN IT IS WINTER

You know time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems like yesterday that I was young, just married, and embarking on my new life with my mate. Yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all those years went.

I know that I lived them all. I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams. But, here it is... the winter of my life, and it catches me by surprise... How did I get here so fast? Where did the years go and where did my youth go? I remember well seeing older people through the years and thinking that those "older people" were years away from me and that winter was so far off that I could not fathom it or imagine fully what it would be like.

But, here it is...my friends are retired and getting grey... they move slower and I see an older person in myself now. Some are in better and some worse shape than me... but, I see the great change... Not like the ones that I remember who were young and vibrant...but, like me, their age is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used to see and never thought we'd be.

Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the day! And taking a nap is not a treat anymore... it's mandatory! Cause if I don't on my own free will... I just fall asleep where I sit!

And so... now I enter this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do things that I wish I had done but never did!! But, at least I know, that though the winter has come, and I'm not sure how long it will last... this I know, that when it's over on this earth... it's over. A new adventure will begin!

Yes, I have regrets. There are things I wish I hadn't done... things I should have done, but indeed, there are also many things I'm happy to have done. It's all in a lifetime.

So, if you're not in your winter yet... let me remind you, that it will be here faster than you think. So, whatever you would like to accomplish in your life, please do it quickly! Don't put things off too long!! Life goes by quickly. So, do what you can TODAY, as you can never be sure whether this is your winter or not!

You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of your life... so, LIVE FOR TODAY and say all the things that you want your loved ones to remember.. and hope that they appreciate and love you for all the things that you have done for them in all the years past!!

"Life" is a GIFT to you. The way you live your life is your gift to those who come after. Make it a fantastic one.

Remember: "It is Health that is real Wealth and not pieces of gold and silver."

~Your kids are becoming you......but your grandchildren are perfect!
~Going out is good.. coming home is even better!
~You forget names... but it's OK, because other people forgot they even knew you!!!
~You realize you're never going to be really good at anything.... especially golf.
~The things you used to care to do, you no longer care to do, but you really do care that you don't care to do them anymore.

~You sleep better on a lounge chair with the TV blaring than in bed. It's called "pre-sleep."
~You miss the days when everything worked with just an "ON" and "OFF" switch..
~You tend to use more 4 letter words ... "what?"..."when?"...???
~Now that you can afford expensive jewelry, it's not safe to wear it anywhere.
~You notice everything they sell in stores is "sleeveless?!"
~What used to be freckles are now liver spots.
    ~Everybody whispers.
~You have 3 sizes of clothes in your closet.... 2 of which you will never wear.

~But "Old" is good in some things:
    Old Songs, Old movies ...
and best of all, our dear ...OLD FRIENDS!!

    Stay well, "OLD FRIEND!"

Send this on to other "Old Friends" and let them laugh in agreement!
