Compo should be along soon then!

Ooooher! Why have I been singled out for such an honour? Thought it was strange no one had said owt!

Good to see the banner back, and we've had a colour change!

I was of the opinion that a truck stop in the UK was one where wagons could park up overnight with facilities for drivers to shower, relax and refresh as well as providing a cafe. This was certainly the case a few years back when I dealt with clients who operated such premises.

So sorry to hear this, like Lizzie I wondered why he hadn't posted anything from RoT lately and did think that he was probably not too good. R I P Ash mate.

Something of an institution in Sutton was Rowells Department store, made Grace Brothers look positively futuristic! Mrs C had Saturday job there in her teens and in view of her diminutive stature was always having to be an Elf in Santa's Grotto.
Rowells also had/have a branch in Long Eaton, I assume that they are both long gone by now unless anyone knows to the contrary?

It was The Royal Snooker Hall on South Sherwood St, located beneath the Evening Post offices and must have closed in perhaps the Fifties.

Although I was 7 in 1954, and like most 7 year olds back then pretty much aware of my
world in Comyn Street, I am always surprised that I cannot remember seeing ration books in use. The weekly order was written into the "order book" and handed into the corner shop for collection on Friday, and fresh food bought as required from the shops in the area, but try as I might I just don't recall handing over ration books with the coupons. Anyone else with such a black hole in the memory?

Ian, thanks for those, I have learned something new here, hadn't known about Toilet Rooms before.

Ian, do you mean the offices over what was Tobys? If so that is Vernon House and I started work in those offices in 1963, are they still in use as offices?

"Gab" is a recognised word, think of a gabble, meaning idle chit chat. There is an online platform like Twitter, though not so politically correct, called Gab.

Rog, perhaps sadly I get it why the meerkats have Russian accents because it is the adman`s perception of how the word " market" is pronounced with such an accent. You have to remember the first spate of adverts from some years ago when supposedly someone had mistakenly rung the organisation " Trust the Meerkats " ( no, I don't think that there really is such a thing!) Instead of " Trust the Markets".
See, told you it was sad that I knew!!

The theme tune to the Wendy Craig prog was "Love is like a butterfly" recorded by Dolly Parton. " Butterfly" on the video was a 1957 recording by Andy Williams.

Afraid that I fall into one of those that you mention in your last para Lizzie, and unfortunately( if it is ) do have time to consider the photos, some of areas that I don't know, others which bring back good recollections and memories. Don't know if there is anyone else like me who had no particular interest in buses until I started looking at the photos on here, perhaps because I have the time so to do, but always had an interest in classic cars and other vehicles.
Edit: Keeping on topic, never had the finances to go to any clubs!

That's from our era, good memories of Sawyers, Brittania, Cricket Players and The Hutt. You've been handed the " like " vicariously as I can't give it to Katyjay!!

My brother took me to one of their Christmas shows, which must have been 1953 but sadly all that I can remember were children being invited up onto the stage and we couldn't because we were up in the gods.
