Yes i remember the machine that printed tags on to aluminium strips it was there late sixties. Next to it was a vibrating plate to stand on for those aching feet.

Was this plaice (fish shop) on Front street near the co-op, demolished about 25 years ago? I remember one there with the rope pulley/lift and 2 large ladies working there.

Hi RWK i lived at no 24 at the top of the alley about 1972 -1974. I don't remember the Quorton family. The only big family i remember were the Hibberts, who had 5 girls.

I went to the same place as Mick, Trent school of Motoring on Arkwright St. They were near the railway bridge and used to share a telephone with a motorbike repair shop next door.

I went to Peoples too in early seventies doing electronics. The only thing i can remember was trying to work out the value of a resister using the colour coded bands, that came in handy.

I can remember an incident in the wash house possibly mid sixties, possibly the same one as Bryceclare remembers. A woman had her arm badly mangled or ripped off.
We used to be taught swimming at Portland baths by a little bloke called Mr Brooks.

That would have been the Adelphi. It's now a KFC, i reckon it closed around 1979.
