Today was Mums official birthday so we went to a hotel in Durham who do an authentic victorian high tea. It was something special with fruit cake covered with candied fruits huge fruit scones and lots of small cakes and sandwiches, a huge candelabra in the middle of the table with tea urn on the side. It was a ladies day only, my youngest grandaughter was missing so a video was sent to her. Each year it seems to get harder to find something different maybe next year when she will be 102 she might just want to stay home.

We had a great day at Newcastle Race Course for Mums birthday, lovely meal and the sun kept shining, so pleased i opted for a big hat. As usual i lost money both Mum and Aunt won money, i shall have to start and pick my horses their way......its very technical "thats a nice name or i once knew somebody who had a pet called that". They have done it the same way for years used to drive Dad crazy, he would study form check if the going was good then still lose.

College scarves.
When I was a student (1960's) it was de rigueur to wear a scarf (in all weathers) that represented the college you attended. I can't see that being acceptable now!
Long white boots very short denim shorts add skimpy top .......and your scarf very proudly worn by both sexes.

All sorted to drive to Gateshead tomorrow to celebrate Mums birthday by going to Newcastle races for ladies day. We have done this for many years and it's always been a family day this year its myself Mum and Aunty first for me since losing Alan. Mum didn't say much about it but as she will be 101 i wanted her birthday to be as special as always, i will leave a lot poorer as usual can't pick a winner "for love nor money" as the saying goes. Bought a big hat this year as it going to be sunny.......

Make them work for their benefits as suggested by NBL, after all we work for our wages what makes the work shy generation any different. A lot of our generation left school with only the basic education but what we did have was the desire to work and make for ourselves the life that we wanted. Before anyone says things are different now i realise that but if you want something badly enough you will find a way to get it, but only if you get off your lazy ass.
Feel better now, i may have been out in the sun to long.

Due to a fall a while ago i have not been able to clean our house as it needs so i decided to get a local lady in to help. I have been woken up this morning by Mum and Aunty having a tidy up before she arrives, lost for words.

There was nothing obsequious about Taylders. It was politeness and attention to the customers choice. It was far better than the give us your money, goodbye attitude in a lot of places these days.
Different area but the shop reminded me of two shops one in Newcastle other in Gateshead. Doggarts in Gateshead was considered very "posh" lady assistants with refined accents and the most beautiful staicase on entry, the other was Issac Walton in Newcastle very Grace Brothers in the mens department these days you are lucky to find an assistant.

I know there are few word game affectionados on here so I saw this idea on another forum & seems quite interesting.
Add no more than 6 words to an ongoing story & see where it goes.
As Nottstalgis is a family forum please no smut or naughty words !
So to start the ball rolling.

I think this should stop now gentlemen please, whoever is right or wrong. The idea of NS is to entertain to pull up memories of happy childhoods exchange news and generally cheer each other up, lets get back to what we all do best and exchange gossip.

My last post above was running through my mind at stupid o'clock so i thought write it down might make me feel better. The idea was then to erase it, next time i looked at my tablet it was 5am, started off as a good idea. If we ever have a 'silly old sod" thread i will move it.

Whitby Lucky Ducks are still going strong, not the shop I remember as a child when you actually see the ducks being made. Would spend a long time just looking at rows and rows deciding which colour I would buy.
A good idea for Nottingham could be called "aye up duck"

Beautiful day here in Staithes more sun than cloud only thing spoiling it are visitors, seems a 'bus trip' have found us. I live over the beck which is the quiet side you can either walk the rocks/ pier or walk up the bank onto the moor for stunning views, not many take this option. Wherever you are have a lovely day.

This I think is one for the 'girls', the cut out book where you got a cardboard doll and paper clothes. Spent ages cutting them out being so careful not to cut the little tags off, if I remember correctly some of them had a little story so you could dress the doll on her adventures. If there was one for the boys I apologise in advance.
