  1.  I did not see the posts that were deemed to be offenisive so can not comment but could those comments  not just be removed and leave the ones posted before. We all had differing opinions which is good as the outcome to this will affect us all, we  come across things that we disagree with all the time and can at times have lively discussions but that's life.

Mentioning ''Chatka Crab'' got me remembering,,,it was the most expensive single item in the shop at 6/6,, most Marsdens stocked it,, but only sold 1 or 2 cans per week,, it was never put on the shelves but was kept in the safe........

A lot of money when the average wage would be about £9 to £12 per week, I know someone out there can be more specific.  I have never heard of Chatka crab was it available everywhere.

  3. My aunt and Prince Phillip are both the same age as were talking about him giving up his licence  she announced she was still keeping hers, gobsmacked was an understatement I had no idea she still had one. Mum gave hers up long time ago when the arthritis spread into her hands, the thought that all she has to do is tick the right boxes and she could go on the road is scary.

  4. I have friends in the village who are keen cyclists and say that I should try it, not having been on a cycle since falling off my Pink Witch I doubt it's going to happen. I watch Miss Marple and other country programs and a woman does not look to good from the rear, could be the rear in question is to big.  I'm sure that does not apply to you Carni.

We've got an umbrella with cats on it. We got it from The Cat Shop in Canterbury, which surprisingly enough only sells cat related objects !

I visited The Cat Shop on my last visit to York also bought an umbrella, as they say great minds in our case expecting rain. Also purchased a scarf/2 mugs/hat and gloves my daughter in law loves her cats.

I plucked up courage to take my greyhound out for his walk. He kept nagging me until I put my coat on and then pranced in excitement as I got his lead. Then he couldn't understand that I was stepping tentatively on the slippery pavement instead of walking briskly along. Must admit I turned round and came home as soon as he'd 'been'. He's lying in front of the radiator now.

All greyhounds must be the same regarding "prancing" Maisie does it every time, there is no chance of a walk here the bank is to steep in either direction. We have not seen a soul today and I am not surprised according to the forecast we can expect snow, but they have been wrong before. Take care everyone we ain't as young and nimble as we once we're.

My great grandparents lived at 24 Suez Street in the Little Egypt area of Basford. I remember going there in my pushchair but the house was destroyed in the early to mid 80s. However, some of the original street remains. This area was our old friend Newbasfordlad's point of origin.  I've never seen an image of Suez Street as it originally was either.

NBL and Alan exchanged  a few memories when they were both with us.

Don't forget this thread   https://nottstalgia.com/forums/topic/6912-old-roads-around-basford/?page=6&tab=comments#comment-535469    Scroll down the page a bit for a few photos.

I have seen and looked when you sent them to me me, Alan  and I sort of worked out  where he lived. It's a very unrealistic hope that one day I could see a picture of just the street. I have downloaded the pictures and printed them they help with the good memories. Gem

I was secretly hoping that at least half of the Cavern Club Beatles would miraculously turn up at the venue and give an impromptu performance..  but sadly.....

Staithes, just a little south of Boulby Mine, where I spent just over four years of my life at when it first opened.

I lived at Loftus back then, one of my "haunts" was the Tiger Inn at top of Boulby Bank.

We live on Cowbar Bank so it's on the way to Loftus not been inside for many years, mum and aunty prefer the Fox and Hounds. Staithes has lost a lot of its old world charm but it's called progress, sometimes it feels like them and us if you understand what I mean.

In our village, there are some inhabitants who have lived here all their lives (and their fathers before them etc)

Margie, the start of your post is exactly what you could say about Staithes  over half of the village is owned by 'outsiders'. That being the case the winter months are very quiet plus mobile phone and internet service is poor. Its nice when people come and settle but most find us to quiet and isolated.
