  1. You have to get the death cert first, so that you have the actual date and place of death. When you have that, it might be worth searching the local paper for any mention, as details of funeral may be given. The Evening Post is online here, certainly for some of 1923, but I don't know whether it's complete.

Thanks. Death certificate ordered. I am trying to do what I can without having to pay :-)

  2. Its a fairly common name but there is this Marys funeral in 1823 ?

BIRTHS. MARRIAGES. AND DEATHS. Births Marriages, Deaths, Sympathy,
Saturday. HARVEY.—On March 22nd, at 173 Wilford-grove, Mary, widow the late George (of Wilford-crescent West ).

Its possible but unlikely that it is the same family. I have only gone back to 1806 and that was a birth. Mind you it was George Harvey. The Mary I am looking for is possibly the only Harvey that came to Nottingham. They seem to have travelled along the A46 turned right at Bingham and came in on the A52. Starting with Mary and going backwards, it is Nottingham City, Flintham, Kneeton, Barkestone, Newark, that being George Harvey born 1806. That is the direct line and I have not gone sideways much yet, apart from John Harvey who was Mary's brother who kept Red Lodge at Scriveton. He has a posh headstone in Flintham churchyard. Mary Harvey never married - she just had kids!

  3. This might be a bit of a long shot but where would someone who died in the Meadows area be buried? Thinking of going grave hunting.

The person I am looking for info on is my Great Grandmother Mary Harvey. She was born 1864 and died 1923. I have not got her death certificate yet but I would think she lived at 9 Blackstone Street, Meadows at the time of death. Previously she lived at 21 Queens Grove and was born at Flintham. This person is the family's proverbial skeleton in the closet and frankly makes it the most interesting bit of my family history as she had 9 children (1 died) but she never married. That is the reason my surname is Harvey as she passed her name to her offsprings.

Also I am wondering if it is actually possible to find out who my Grandfathers father actually was. The relevant space on his birth certificate is blank and on the 1901 & 1911 censuses(?) Mary Harvey is listed as head of the family - no man at the same address. My Grandfather Edward Harvey was born at 21 Queens Grove in 1894.

I have found a number of Harvey graves at both Flintham and Kneeton churchyards that all seem to be relatives of mine.

    TIA

  4. i was born at 14 lily st off dame agnes street in 1948 lived there till 1958 went to sycamore infants and elms junior then went to live at Hyson Green.anybody remember the bottom rec,the chip shop and Griffins shop on Dame Agnes street.

Only just joined this forum today and I think it looks like there is a lot of interest. I was born on Woodborough Road - cant remember the number without looking at my birth certificate but 268a rings a bell it was at the back of a shop on the opposite side of Woodborough Road to Dame Agnes Street (which until 20 or so years ago I always thought was Day Magnus Street) My father rented a lock up garage up there. We then moved to Ford Street St Marys, which was at the bottom of St Anns Well Road. I believe he still rented the garage. Moved to Eastwood in 1959 shortly before my 3rd birthday

  5. I am a 'Cooper' residing 'down-under' in Australia. I am searching for

information re my Great/Great/Grandfather James COOPER B 1795, my Great

Grandfather James Cooper who married Eliza Burrows on 14/7/1850 in

Nottingham and who migrated to Tasmania Australia in 1853.

    Any/all assistance/comments/offers will be appreciated.

Only just joined this forum today so bear with me a bit.

My fathers mothers maiden name was Cooper but I haven't gone far enough back yet to help you but I shall keep you posted. I have gone back to 1855 and hit a brick wall. Also no trace of them on the 1901 census. Their addresses were 14 Derwent Street, Meadows, before that somewhere? Burton Joyce and before that at Gunthorpe. Do you think that might be any use?

  6. Welcome, hopefully you'll get some joy with the family history, it's always surprising who knows who on this forum. It might help if you know which areas your ancestors lived in. Just to narrow it down a bit.

Thanks for the welcome. As you are Admin perhaps you could recommend which part of the forum I should be asking about genealogy. I am guessing this is the wrong one.

    TIA

  7. Hello Folks

Just joined this forum. Been doing a bit of family history research and was looking for birthplaces of long deceased family members and wanted historic Nottingham maps. Google brought me to this forum so I thought I had better join. Found a useful map posted by another member btw.

I live at Eastwood now but I was born on Woodborough Road. My parents left Nottingham when I was almost 3 (50 odd years ago) but I still consider myself a Nottingham-ite rather than an Eastwood-ite

My interests are Piano, music, photography, transport. I am interested in Geneology but I am not a fanatic, having said that if there is anyone with the surnames Harvey, Cooper, Cropley, Smedley (to start with) that think that they might be related to me I would like to hear from them.
