  1. I remember the Players Sports Ground off Western Boulevard.

Not sure if it's still there or been sold off for housing like the Raleigh one.

I was at Boots Beeston 1968-1972. I think their Sports Ground is still at Lady Bay West Bridgford. Probably not for long now the company has been bought by the Chinese.

Players is in decline now. The Horizon factory is due to close in the next year or two.

I remember when that was opened as a state of the art facility

Players sports club was knocked down years ago and there is a David Lloyd fitness centre there now.

  2. Hi Mess

I left Peveril in 1964 so missed that . The name Phillip Kemp is bugging me because I do know the name but can't put a face to it.

I don't recall Roger Staines at all. If I remember Randolh Carter had very blonde / white hair and a skin complaint .... Eczema I think.

It sounds like you knew a lot of people who went to Peveril so I'll throw some names around and see if you know any of the following.

    Gloria Morley

    Jean Govier

    Janet Steel

    Janet Ward

    Christine Ward

    Christine Scott

    Carol Wade

    Pat Whincup

    Lorraine Coats

    Eileen Lee

    Sue Kinton

    Diane Whiley

    Phillip Bush

    John Evans

    John Manners

    Phillip Dobson

    Phillip Stevenson

    Malcolm Jarvis

    Lee Evans

And the most famous I went to school with was Sue Pollard

  3. Anyone recall that The Dungeon held a 'Short Skirt contest'. I was appalled even then. Who won that I wonder? Also a comedians night. Neither of these events are from memory, but are noted in my 1966 diary.

I don't recall the " short skirt contest" but I do recall Pete Stringfellow coming to the Dungeon and throwing flowers into the audience whilst playing San Francisco ( Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair) on a midweek night... Wednesday I think. He got soundly booed off stage and I don't think he ever came again.

  4. When I was a kid living on Broxtowe Estate we used to have Bales Ice Cream come round. A special treat was to have a bowl of ice cream with your tinned fruit cocktail for Sunday tea.

You used to take a bowl to the van and depending how much you could afford he would fill it accordingly. Bales also made lovely ice lollies ( suckers) Lemonade and Dandelion & Burdock come to mind. Also the sucker stick sometime had a letter on it and if you found one of these you were entitled to a free one.

  5. Does any one remember the fish & chip shop on Wollaton Street. Had tables & chairs upstairs where you could have your meal served on a plate with tea & bread & butter. Areal treat when mum & dad took us there. I think the big Hotel (cant think of its name)has been built in its place. It must be over 50 years ago tho.

Yes I remember it well. There was a waitress there who took your orders and didn't even write them down. She remembered everything that people had ordered and always got everything right,

If I remember correctly it was on three floors and she used to run and down those stairs ten to the dozen.

  6. Went to see The Modest again last week. Such a good band

Hi Susyshoes I have seen them twice in the last couple of months....... Quite recently at Catchems Corner and before that at The Bell in town.

They are a brilliant group and have a good following.

  7. Anyone remember a guy named Ray Tasse(nickname tass) from back then although we were never mates I remember he was definately a face in the clubs, I also remember him from Fairham comp and Spiders youth club in Clifton. Just remembered back then my nickname was "Nev" simply because of Neville Reid the Tailors.

Hi I've been trying to find out about Tats ( Stuart Gregory ) and whatever happened to him. A regular at The Dungeon.

  8. Hi, I also went to the Dungeon at the same time as you. The people I remember are Little Eric, Jimmy Faye, Mondo, Stu Morris, Jan, Kevin Reynolds, Jimmy Flowers, Paddy Walsh and Pete Blood plus the Mini Boys.

I am also in touch with a girl called Sherrie Bennett through a site called Soul Source who used to work at Reddifusion......remember her?

Saw some great acts at the Dungeon including Stevie Wonder when he was " Little" lol.

I am still active on the scene and go to various do's in Nottingham and beyond. I go to the Brit reunion twice a year one in June and one in December .

If you want to PM me at all feel free.
