I don’t know if you fished at the Conegre Farm lake at Hoveringham but they buried the owner Chris Lee last Wednesday.

I’ve not fished for over 10 years when I was last in Scotland. I doubt if I know one end of my rod from the other now!

The club closed Conegre lake in respect of the funeral. It's supposed to be a very good lake. The Trent nearby has been made accessible recently - must get down there.

  2. Phil - we really should go fishing together one day. I have yet to go to our club water at Thurgaton.

Just two trout this afternoon but a few blanks with other members. Gave one of the trout to our Ghurkha neighbour and we fried the other for tea. Our neighbour brought half of the trout that he had cooked over to us and we added a bit + juices to our fried one. He knows about spices!

  3. I've been in the workshop making a jig that will ensure that a new fishing rod guide,  that I make myself, is of a consistent size and shape. The guide was fitted to a fly rod that I displayed at last weekends show and was very well received. i was asked if I had patented it? - never gave it a thought but making enquiries just in case.

My poor old Myford looked a sorry sight. Uncleaned for about the last 6 uses. Half buried  in wood, plastic, steel, aluminium and finally brass swarf, so gave it a clean.  Off fishing the local syndicate trout lakes shortly. Do my gym work later.

Not enough hours in the day!

Remains of a Roman timber lined well dug up from a sand and gravel quarry, the reason for the timber lining was to prevent the sand from being washed into the well through movement of water, nicely fitting planks of timber inter locking with holes "drilled" to accept some sort of dowel to hold it all together, hope this is of some interest

  5. Another busy day today. Setting up my exhibition stand for the British Fly Fair International ready for tomorrows opening. Been working hard all week for this.

Hoping to sell a few fishing rods to cover all the R&D that's been put into the project.

A couple of days late, but...........70 years ago, sweet rationing finally ended in the UK on 5th February 1953.

Well, I was 14 and it didn't make much difference - still had no money for sweets after buying sf books, fishing and cycling stuff.

Last time I was in that area was as a conductor on the 39 trolleybus in 1962.

The trolley turned left onto Cavendish road on the left and that was the last stop. The bus did a U turn and was then ready to do the 39 to Wollaton Park, (Middleton boulevard). Thanks CT, much obliged.

There was a seat bench by that bus stop at the bottom of Cavendish Rd. It was where I proposed to Mrs PP:rolleyes:

Good on yer PP., more power to yer elbow. Keep that up and you'll be able to row across the channel and fetch a few visitors

Beekay - I did row across the channel when I was a young 74. It all started when talking to the chairman of our village football team and I commented on how unfit they all were. It ended up with me challenging them to field a team of 6 to row across the Channel indoors alongside me in the village hall. It was really a charity thing but they took the challenge seriously. While I was chugging along at a steady 2.05/500 they were changing every 10 minutes. They began to fall behind until they 'twigged' and started to change every 5 min. They eventually overhauled me and finished up in Calais 5 min ahead :) I had the last laugh though when in the pub after - they were totally knackered and I was smugly drinking free beer. We made about £300 for a local charity.

  9. No such thing as a Heart failure clinic hereabouts DJ. In the two years since having stents fitted I've only seen a doctor once except when I was taken in as an emergency a year ago. Good to report that I am so much better that I've been for over 2 years.

During the Concept2 January Virtual Team Challenge I rowed 701 km to get 68th place from an entry of 10,151 and I feel really good. 3 of my crew mates also got in the first 100. They are aged 79, 80 and 81 - I'm 84 and we are known as the ANCIENTS. I've been in the ANCIENTS cyber crew since 2008 and we enthuse each other and share ways of maintaining fitness. It's still a thrill to remain an athlete, albeit an aging athlete

It was a shock and complete surprise when I had a heart attack 2 years ago. I was really fit until becoming ill 4 weeks prior to being taken to hospital. In retrospect I think it may have been triggered by covid.

Now off to do a few hours fishing, followed by a meeting with the Coffin Dodgers Club.

  10. Delightful day today. Nephew visited us with wife and 2 sons. They moved from Australia to a small village just outside of Rome a year or so ago They started a takeaway business and are doing very well. The secret of their success is that he (trained and experienced chef) makes PIES. Pies are an added attraction to the usual pasta based dishes and the clientele love em. Pies don't seem to have been discovered in Italy? One of the youngsters (5) checked out the chicken coupe and was so excited to discover an egg in the nest box. His younger brother chose an egg from the rack in the pantry and they are looking forward the having THEIR dippy egg for breakfast tomorrow. So heart warming.

    Life is good.

Just been for a swim. Did the walking about in the water first, as advised by physio, then 20 lengths of crawl and a bit of floating about to 'warm down'.

    Always feel better for it.

Just laughed at myself - read your post as - 'Did the walking about on the water'

  12. Sorry to disagree siddha - but it is ABUSE of religion that is a reason for us slaughtering one another. Using religion as a tool for power. Religion itself is a necessary ingredient in life for most. Although I am an agnostic, my Christian upbringing is still an integral part of my being.

  13. Chuffed with myself this morning . Managed to get into 98th position in the virtual team challenge - a global event run by Concept2, the gym equipment manufacturer. Been grinding out the kilometres every day to get into the first 100. Not bad considering that there are 10,141 entries :)

  14. Frosty morning here is Staffs. About to get kitted up to take water samples from the Trent and a tributary. The indications are that the water quality is good, however it will take a year of regular sampling before drawing any conclusions.

The daily gym work is paying off and I feel much better than at this time last year. Done 300km on the rowing machine in first half of Jan - almost 2 hours p/d.
