It's gone!! The old washing machine that was left on the drive when the new one was delivered yesterday. What a scam by Curry's. Charge £20 to have your old machine taken away then leave it for the scrap man. All the EPS packaging is still on the drive though. The delivery driver and scrapman must be working together.

That is brilliant Rog It had been cluttering up my workshop for 60 + years and so good to see it being appreciated.

I tend to get up at first light then do my gym work before breakfast. So it was 7.15 today but 5 am in late spring. Some mornings during winter, like this morning, I do the gym work mid afternoon especially if there is sport or something interesting to watch on tv.
In spite of all the controversy I am enjoying the World cup. I am not an expert on footy but like entertaining games - that's why I was pleased for S Korea who performed so well in their first match. Japan were surprisingly good too.

Black coffee Ben...reminded me of the old days before PC etc. A rep that worked for me, Danny, a small wiry guy of Irish extract always gave the same answer when asked how he liked his coffee. "Loyke me wimmin" he'd reply. "Thick, black and strong".

I spent several months a year in France for 14 years, where the motoring and cycling conditions were far superior to the UK. In fact most of mainland Europe have better conditions and less road works that the UK. It is easy to blame the roadworks and congestion on our crowded island but a lot of Benelux, France and Germany are just as densely populated.

Wow - a bit of traction there...

Sorry I missed your birthday BK. I will raise a glass to you later....
You are a blessing to this forum - keep painting and smiling

My dad had his shoulder dislocated by jumping a trolley bus. Must have been a common occurrence.

I don't know if the Ferry Inn is suitable for a meet up but it is handy for the trams.
I would love to have a look at Iremongers pond again. I still remember a big tench breaking my line there when I was about 10. I remember the very spot where I used to fish,

The 44 and the 43 were at the Trent Bridge End. The 40 47 were at the Wilford Road end or it was just the no 40 as going the other way each ended with it's own venue.
Ah! yes. A 40 or 47 to Wilford. How could I have forgotten that?
Something else I am trying to remember is that although we caught the 43 or 44 from the Alma or Bank bus stop on Alfreton Rd, think we then had to change in Slab Square?

I would go through that turnstile with my dad every Sunday morning in the late 40's on our way to the allotments. Also to fish in Iremongers pond as a lad. 43 terminus was handy - or was it the 44?

As a young boy I wore very thick glasses. An older, bigger boy started to bully me and called me Tokio Joe after a Japanese general during the war.
Anyway, after nearly killing him with a cricket stump the abuse stopped. Never had any more bullying from others after that.
I was then nicknamed Apple because my name in Nottingham slang was Coggin.

I still use my old Starrett 0-1" mic for small stuff and automatically convert to metric 'in me ed' . Don't often have to resort to a conversion chart. The training done as a teenager sticks with you forever.
At the ROF most instruments and machines were imperial and the drawings that were in metric were sent up to the drawing office to have key dimensions converted to Imperial. I did my own conversions which caused a problem at the inspection table. The inspectors would not trust 'the lad' so sent the drawing upto the DO for conversion anyway. Seems incredible now that skilled men could not (or would not) do the conversions themselves.
Can't tell you offhand what a rod, chain, gill, bushell or cord is though

When starting as an apprentice at the ROF straight from school I was faced with these funny measurements - millimetres!? Was not taught anything in metric at school.
The reason for using metric at the ROF was that most drawings were based on Bofors designed guns.
Then there was the mystery of different thread sizes and standards. unc, unf, bsf, bsw, bsp, ba, buttress, acme, square and even a 'bicycle' thread among others!

Did a bit of woodworks yesterday. Removed a rotted rowlock mounting from one of our club boats while still docked. Replaced the mounting using G clamps then drilled through existing holes so that new bolt holes aligned. Bit tricky using the battery drill from outside of the boat while sitting in the boat. Then did a bit of fishing and caught nowt.

Blidworth, Daybrook, Collingham. Nothing in the villages around Southwell. Still I’ve got my own pair of sheds with all the kit I could possibly need without having to mix with a bunch of old farts!
takes one to know one Phil - me included.
I have a workshop for metal and a wood work shed. Trouble is they get mixed up and a lot of tools are duplicated. Must have at least 30 screwdrivers littered about the place. My favorite shed is the man coup. An extension to the chicken coup where I cvan have sensible conversations with the chooks while drinking cider

It warms my heart when a Kingfisher perches on my fishing rod.

I was the founding chairman of our fishing club back in the 80's. 200 members now and a waiting list. Still on the committee as environmental officer and currently undertaking projects for river habitat improvement and water quality monitoring.
This evening will be the inaugural meeting of a fly tying club that I'm starting up. It's in a different pub out in the Boondocks. Heavens knows what is going to turn up there???
