I figured with your monica, you grew up on Deepdene Way?
Yes we lived at 54 Deepdene Way, but only until just before my 3rd birthday, then we moved to Clifton

If you lived on Deepdene, then we talked the same lingo!
Katy, that fits in with some of the other posts, as Mum was born in Dunkirk and moved to Bilborough when she was seven.

I'm pretty sure when I was a kid, if someone was described as sucky, they had a gormless look about them, like their mouth hanging open.
Katyjay, that's the definition that I knew as a kid. When I lived in Clifton, I remember being with my Mum and passing a girl with just the look you describe and Mum saying: " She's a sucky looking so and so"

Margie, I am proud to say that despite leaving Nottingham over 40 years ago, I still have my Nottingham accent, granted that it does become broader when either back "home" or speaking with relatives. Also when referring in local football here in Northants, I do get some funny looks when telling players to Gerronwithit, or when not giving them a free kick, telling them "There's nowt there".

Going by accents, I would agree that the south starts as you leave Leicestershire, into Northamptonshire. Market Harborough, Leics has a definite East Midlands flat vowel sound as in grass, path, bath etc. Yet just two miles south on the A508 you come to the village of Great Oxendon, Northants and its all long vowels (barth, parth etc)

There was an AEC Renown on loan to NCT in 1962, and it was used largely on the services to Bestwood Estate, so that ties in with your memories Willow.
The coach firm in Mablethorpe would be Grayscroft.

Last PD2s were out of service in early 1976, But some continued to be used as trainers until 1979, when they were replaced by Leyland Atlantean PDR1/2s. The last AEC Regents Vs were withdrawn in the autumn of 1976. The last half cabs were the AEC Renowns which were withdrawn 40 years ago, almost to the day, in September 1977. Half cabs made a brief comeback with NCT, when following the fire at Parliament Street Depot in December 1977, two ex Midland General Bristol Lodekkas were hired from Trent.

They used PD2 Titans for training rather than the older Regent Vs, because there was no syncromesh between 1st and 2nd gear on the Titans, the thinking being that if you could handle the crash change on these, everything else would be a doddle.

Should have stuck with the 70s Zone and Collar traffic scheme, including the Park N Ride, Lilac Leopards, but the Tories soon put paid to that.
