  1. Notts and Derbys became the Sherwood Foresters, but it looks like a complex early name history so records may be confusing,.

  2. The Sandford road bungalow is the location of the deaths of 2 student brothers who died of carbon monoxide poisoning from a faulty boiler.

The boiler had been isolated by a gas engineer, the Landlord allegedly reconnected it.

The bunglaow was boarded up shortly after and hasn't seen the light of day since.

There was planning granted to demolish and using land adjacent on Porchester build 10 flats and the site was put up for sale.

Planning has lapsed and the bungalow and plot were for sale earlier this year, unless it's sold in the last 3 months then it hasn't sold as it doesn't show up on properties sold on Sandford from Land Registry info.

  3. Nonna, yes he appears to be O.K

I don't know if the teacher was vaccinated but once found positive all the kids were sent home as it's a small village school and it was the last week as well.

What was slightly odd was he didn't test positive (lateral flow) untill day 6.

Daughter in Law originally qualified and worked as a Childrens Nurse and now works for Public Health England so she'd been testing the whole family regularly since the test kits have been freely available.

This was mid isolation when Grandson and Grand daughter were in the care of my son,,,,

  4. Ube,

Day 1 he complained his head hurt (not headache)

Night time same day, he woke up shouting the house is on fire, never done that before.

It's a fairly new house so has many smoke detectors, apparently hallucination is a symptom.

That was it, apart from the whole family being in isolation for 10days.

Daughter in Law works from home so no change.

My Son was off with the kids.

Track and Trace were on the phone within minutes of the email confirming positive PCR test result.

At least 2 or 3 other kids in the class caught it.

  5. And this is a positive result, from my 5 year old Grandson 3 weeks ago.

PCR test, the laboratory one confirmed it.

He caught Covid from a teacher in the last week at school.

It's barely noticeable but next to the T is a bar that indicates positive.

C is just a control marker.

  6. B-K,,

The home test kit where you stick a big cotton bud up your nose and stir it around and also in the back of your throat and tickle your tonsils if you've still got them.
Then stir it in a magic potion and drip the residue into a widget.

1 bar and your clear, 2 bars and your positive, probably.

  7. To convert Miles per U.S gallon to Miles per U.K (Imperial) Gallon multiply the miles (or km) by 1.2

That'l mean the 35km per U.S gallon comes out at 26 miles per U.K gallon.

How do I know,, because I own a LHD U.S car with the fuel computer calibrated for U.S gallons, so check mine occassionally.

I get 28miles per U.K gallon on journeys of 50 to 60 miles each way in my 2014 car so 26mpg (u.k) is good in a 1998 Crown Vic.

I don't use mine for short journeys.

  8. I'd like to present some evidence in the case of the missing Sherwood Police Premises.

(p.s there's a link near the bottom of the page to 621)

All images from Google maps, street views in the past.

The first image labelled by Google as July 2008 is not easy to get, you need to be in exactly the right place on Mansfield Road to catch the past image.

The address was 581a Mansfield Road Sherwood, even though 579a is one side and 581 is the other. (see snip from Traffweb at bottom of page)

Just when you think it's gone for good it made a brief re-appearance in Sept 2014.

Following the link below quotes the Police Station as being in the former Lloyds bank at no 621 Mansfield Road (may have been something else in between)

  9. Col, the area used as a tip was excavated and carted off when Gala Bingo was built and Gala Way was constructed, later linking to Southglade Rd, thus restoring the levels roughly to pre tip times.

Gala Way is quite a climb up to Southglade level, not apparent on the photo.

Trees that are there now are new and I think your tree would have been on the line of Gala Way.
The railway Oaks are still thriving.

I planted a Canadian Maple in my garden when I moved in 30+ years ago (actually 2 but 1 didn't take) not quite swinging height, but give it another 50 years and it might be.

  10. Yes, saw that D.J.
It's been missing from around the Castle, hence the project to restore it there.

I think I've been digging them up for years in my garden, I'm going to watch out for them now.

My garden tends to be "Natural", I only dig out the rampant weeds.

Other 'natural' things I find are, rusty bolts, lumps of iron and in 33 years only 1 broken wagon plate.

  11. OH,, Brother  B.K you've failed, there's no hope now it's got you hooked.

Were you shouting out the next stop name before the tram got there?

I resisted, I went to Wickes to buy some decorative stone gravel to tidy up my block paving edges.

I wonder if anyone else succombed but won't admit to it?

And no, I didn't have an anorak / backpack whilst on the tube.

  12. Not only have I not watched that video, I've never been on the Tram either.

However at weekends when I was on a 6 week training course in London in the late 60's I travelled every underground route end to end (except the circle Line ! ) and visited almost all the stations. Victoria Line was under construction at that time.
