  1. My oldest went to the Boys High, we'd hoped for a free place but ended up paying.

Every time there was parents evening we were met with, "He's doing very well, considering"

We never bothered to ask if it was because he appeared to come from Bilsthorpe, a mining village we'd only lived in a few years, or neither of his parents were Solicitors, Accountants or Consultants etc.

He must have done alright, "considering", as he lives in the U.S and works in an Executive role.

As Phil, the school and teachers need not have worried.

  2. When I was out and about in a van up to 2 or so years ago Greggs were opening up in small units on trading estates.

My younger Son did a stop gap nightshift for a few months at the Thorntons factory, before Ferrero bought them.

I don't remember getting a single chocolate out of that.

  3. My Brother was in the Army for 12 years, the last 3 1/2 in N.I. from 1969 I think.

He was in one of the first mobs to go for 3 years after they'd realised the 6 month lads were just getting used to it then were being sent back home.

He stayed over the 3 years to finished his 12 years there as he had met his wife to be over there.

He lived over there untill his death in 2015 despite his wife wanting to come over to the mainland.

He was R.C.T (driver) so although he carried a rifle I don't believe he ever fired in anger other than practice.

He was a projectionist for ABC, started at the Metropole, before he joined up so he ran the cinema in the barracks as well, just as he had everywhere else he'd been.

He also drove the Military Fish and chip van around the estates to feed the lads, which is how he met his wife.

  4. That'll  mean very few taxis, buses, trains ect will operate.

The majority of lorries will be off the road resulting in massive congestion during the day.

Overnight road and rail works would have to stop.

Emergency services would be down to very minimum cover.

Restaurants, takeaways and many other shops would be closed due to shortages of staff and reduced numbers of customers.

There'd be no Emergency call out tradesMEN available only relatively few Tradeswomen.

Any business operating 24 hrs would most likely have to stop overnight working unless the majority of staff are women

The list goes on and on.

Is she even on a planet let alone the same one as us.

Do women only get harmed and attacked after 6pm?

  5. I can see the picture in your post above.

Try this OZ, it may be the location the picture has been uploaded from that's causing you a problem.

I've copied and uploaded and linked  it to a different picture store.

That's the new Broad Marsh bus station on the right, Broad Marsh shops, that were, are just out of shot on the right and the new College and site for Peoples College on the left.

  6. Nonna B

When they say 60+ they mean 60 to 65

They've been doing 5 year blocks so anyone 65 to 70 like me got letters 2 weeks ago.

Some people had been using a website link for Healthworkers of any age to book a jab when they weren't Health workers and the centres doing the jab weren't asking for I.D as they should have.

  7. Lizzie,

My Son's got the opposite problem.

He's living and working in the U.S with 6 years left on his work Visa, but cannot come to the U.K to hoiliday, visit and to arrange selling his house over here which he's been wanting to do for nearly a year as he's bought a house over there.

If he does come over to the U.K he won't be allowed back into the U.S.

He's got a Green Card Residency permit application in, from nearly 2 years ago and it's due to be issued any day now, when it is he would be allowed back in.

  8. I had the Pfizer one on Saturday and all I got was a bit of an aching arm the next day, just as though someone had stuck a needle in it..

I had it done at Lenton, Old Central studios, apparently Johnathan Van Tamm, him off the tele, was there earlier doing his bit injecting people, he didn't do me.
