Welcome Shaz58 to Nottstalgia. You'll love this site.
I too am a former Manning girl. I may have known you, as we are around the same age, I was born at the end of 57.
My mother was friends with a girl whose father managed the Babington pit and lived in a house close to it. His surname was Tomlin.
Small world. Look forward to sharing your memories.
Hi Jill
We would have been in the same year - I was born early 1958 - my name is Sharon (was) Wilson - thanks for replying x

Just been listening: properly took me back to that era- I was too young to go but older family members were regulars and often talk of those days.

Hi all - I've been a reader of this site for some while and decided to take the plunge and join up today! I'm a Nottingham gel born and bred but left to live in Derbyshire ( I know - don't tell me!!) in 1988 but always see Nottm as my home and always will. I was born in Babbington Cottages as my Dad was a miner at the pit. Lived off Alfreton Road later and when I got with my boyfriend (now my husband of 40 years) who was from Chilwell lived in Thorneywood, Mapperley, Chilwell and then moved in 1988 due to my fellas work - I went to Manning and worked at Boots Station Street in 1974-1981. We have always been into Northern Soul: my old man at VaVas firstly and then all over. I started at Creepers (Basford Hall Miners Welfare) and Brit, Colmans, Palais, Derby Venues, Wigan Casino, Cleethorpes etc etc. I like reading all the nostalgia and love this site as its like going back home X
