  1. It beggars belief to think what sort of world the youngsters of today are going to be left with. When I was young my parents didn't have a lot but they were content and prepared to save up for big items. This way they appreciated what they got, not like today when the expectation is to start where the older people took twenty years to get to. It really gets me going when I hear that parents have provided for their offspring with the comment "we helped them". Allowing them to have things they can't afford is not helping them to understand the realities of life. We all know the fate of the oozlum Bird and I Can't help but think society is going the same way.

  2. It's high time these perversions were recognised for what they are. If things carry on at this rate it does not bode well for the human race. When all is said and done it takes one of each to create new life so where do we go if we pair up with one of the same persuasion?. The do gooders of this world have got a lot to answer for in the damage they have done to society and the status quo of life.

  3. They were at the bottom of what is now Mill Lane alongside the River Leen. At on stage they had their own railway siding and turntable to shunt wagons into the works. I used to go there as a lad for bags of straw for my rabbits and later for fertilisers. The old mill is still there as is the remains of the mill race but most of the site is now covered by housing.

  4. I was at Mellish in the sixties Phil and in the main I thought the dinners were good, especially some of the puddings. My favourite was what I now know as Manchester tart, a pastry case filled with jam, banana and custard. Of course not every day was great but for a shilling a day it wasn't that bad.

  5. I remember when the Broadmarsh Centre was built in the late sixties. I was on day release at the then Peoples College and from our classroom you could see over the big car park to Gunn and Moore on the far side. Gradually the landscape changed and more of the character of old Nottingham was lost forever. I know you see things differently when you are young but even then it was obvious that things were on the slide.

  6. I used to have a cousin who ran an off licence cum grocers and the only difference between him and Arkwright was that he didn't stutter. He could have sold fridges to the Eskimos and didn't believe in letting a customer get out of the shop before his pocket had been lightened. One of life's characters, sadly a dying breed.
